Nest Mini Speaker

Hi All,

I was given a google nest mini which was second hand. I also posses one of my own, both are gen 2 devices and have the same System Firmware V 444798 and Cast firmware 3.74.444798.

However My one has the option for Ultrasound sensing but the one I was given does not.

The one I was given also does not respond to the touch for Pause/Play. Apart from that it works perfectly.

Any Ideas on both counts?

Google disabled that touch feature on top of the 1st gen Mini due to reliability issues. But if you touch and hold the left or right side (Volume buttons) of the Mini speaker it will stop/pause music. Touch and hold again will resume music.

It's still working g n my 2 other speakers. They are Gen 2.  When I tried to factory reset you are supposed to touch the centre as you would for stop/play. However that did not work. I will try your suggestion.

That worked , but does not explain the other anomaly.

Understand that but all 3 of mine are Gen 2, and all have the same Firmware. Only one of them does not have the sensor

All my Gen 1 Minis have exactly the same Firmware numbers you mentioned in your original post...

System Firmware V 444798 and Cast firmware 3.74.444798.

Just to be clear: all your Mini speakers have a wall mount screw slot on the base?

To turn on the ultrasonic sensor on a Nest Mini, open the Google Home app, select your Nest Mini device, go to Settings > Recognition & sharing, and ensure "Ultrasound sensing" is toggled on; this feature is usually enabled by default, but you can turn it off if needed.

Yes they do, and came in Gen2 boxes. It is my understanding.din that the Gen 1 were usb connections and don't have the screw mounting were just called mini. Where the Gen 2 are called Nest Mini and come with a normal plug and phone like connections.

Hi Bedders1,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry you're experiencing this inconvenience where the ultrasound sensing option doesn't seem to be working on your second Google Nest Mini. Let's work together to find a solution!

This setting is enabled by default, but you can easily toggle it off and on within the Google Home app at any time. When ultrasound sensing is enabled, your Nest Mini detects your presence when you hold your palm 2 to 6 inches above the device, particularly during media playback. I'd like to recommend checking if it's currently turned off. Here are the steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites or Devices.
  • Tap and hold your device's tile.
  • Tap Settings, then Recognition & Sharing.
  • Turn ultrasound sensing off.

Note: Ultrasound sensing is also disabled when the microphone on your Nest Mini is muted.

Please let me know what you find after checking these settings. I'll be here to assist further.

Best regards,
Juan

As I have previously said all my ministry are Gen 2 and all have the same firmware. After going into setti gs as you have indicated the Ultrasound option is not in the menu to choose.
