Nest Mini "There was a glitch" error, now saying device not setup

I have no idea where to go, I've done everything suggested on Google's help page. I was getting a "there was a glitch" error all day. I'd just say "hey Google," and "there was a glitch" would be the reply before I had a chance to give it a command or ask a question.

I've rebooted my router, my WiFi extender, my Nest Mini (multiple times). Didn't fix the issue. My router and extender firmware is all up to date. I have the Nest connected to my extender as the main network, which is about 10ft away with a clear line of sight.

I've tried unlinking and relinking my Nest, and it's stopped the glitch message, but now it's telling me my device isn't setup. I've gone through the setup steps and it's still giving me the message when I prompt it with "Hey Google."

Lastly, I've done a full factory reset via unplugging it 10 times (the button on top is unresponsive). I'm still getting the "you're device isn't setup" message, when I just set it up...

I'm in a feedback loop here, I'm not sure what to do. Any input would be appreciated

Hi @MrMattDC!

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm truly sorry that you encountered difficulties during the setup process.

I understand that you initially got a “There was a glitch” error message and then received "Device not set up." So let's continue troubleshooting based on the following steps:

  • Remove the device from the app and start the setup process again.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Ensure Location Services is turned on.
  • Force close and reopen the Google Home app, or uninstall and reinstall it.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Google Home app installed.
  • Move the speaker or display to a nearby location to rule out any interference that might be preventing the SSID from broadcasting properly.
  • Try using a different supported mobile device to set up the Nest Mini speaker.

If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing issues, please let me know, and we can explore further troubleshooting options.

Regards,

Catheryn
