Nest can't do what I ask and now doesn't respond at all

So my nest mini would light up when I asked her a question but then would show loading lights but would get stuck like that for 30 seconds then say sorry, please try again in a few seconds.

I stopped talking to her out of frustration but today I asked what the time was to see if she would work now but now she doesn't respond at all. No lights, no tone amd the home app says she's not connected despite her being plugged in right next to me.

I have double checked the cord. Also when she first had the buffering issue I pulled out the plug for a few minutes, plugged her back in and all was good. But then a few days later it happened again so I tried again but it didn't work this time.

Hey Leontyne,

Thanks for reaching out. I know how challenging it is not to have a working device when needed - I'd love to help. A few questions: when did the issue start? How far is the Nest Mini from the router? Are you using a dual-band router?

Below are the steps that you can try:

  1. Move your Google Nest device within 15-20 ft. away from the router to get enough signal from your network.
  2. Reboot your Google Nest device and router by disconnecting them from the power source and leave them unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, plug them back one at a time with intervals.
  3. If it still the same, please proceed resetting your device: On the side of your device, switch the mic off. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey thankyou for the reply!

So we've had the nest mini for about 12 months but it was originally in our lounge hooked up to my dads personal system. It had a problem with repeating the same 2 jokes and was only really used for laughs when friends visited. My dad gave it to me to help with my anxiety at night (relaxation music and meditation) so I moved it to my bedroom. That was 4-6 weeks ago.

As for distance from router, mine is half way between our router and dads nest hub beside his bed. Maybe about.. 6-7 metres through one wall.

I'm sorry I don't know what the last question means, dual or not.. but I know it never had connection issues in the 12 months we had it set up before the factory reset and move to my room.

(Also it doesn't repeat the same two jokes now, or at least before it started doing this)

Hey Leontyne,

Thanks for that information. If you are using a dual-band router - you will see two WiFi networks and normally labeled as 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. Could you also check "My Activity" on the Google Home app to see if your device understands your command correctly.

Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top-right, tap the account.
  3. Tap My Activity.

Also, please confirm if you're done resetting your device and if it's still have the same behavior after doing a reset.

Cheers,

Muddi

I'm sorry! Things are crazy atm.

So I did turn it off and on, it worked for a while. But now it's saying it can't connect to the wifi and to check the connection settings in the google home app which I can't find.

After trying a reset I've now realised yes we have 2 channels, and for some reason the mini can't see my 5G and tells me if I connect to the lower one that it'll change my phone too. Now is that the same problem or new?

Hey Leontyne,

My apologies for the delays. If your device is unable to detect the other band - that's a new issue. Your Google Nest Mini should be compatible with both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. Could you check if your 2.4 GHz connection has a different name or is it set to broadcast?

Keep us posted.

Muddi

Sorry guys, life is hectic atm..

So far she's staying connected for longer and if she isn't, a quick switch off and on does usually fix it so for now I'm going to say it's working okay.

Thankyou so much for all your help and I hope you all have a great day 🙂

Thankyou again! Bye!
