Nest mini hmm something went wrong

JT-is-me

My nest minis have been working well for many months, and then all of a sudden they all started answering. Hmm… Some thing went wrong.

I have tried factory reset… it works for an hour or so then same error.  I forget and rejoin my wifi and it works… but by the next day, same issue.

What seems to trigger it for me, is having two nests in earshot of each other. Instead of obeying, they just pause and error out.

Same problem - I'd say my google devices around the house work properly maybe 25% of the time. The rest of the time I get a "something went wrong" or "there was a glitch" message. It's incredibly frustrating. They've now recently started disconnecting from Spotify after about 10 minutes of so, and no idea why.

Have tried factory resetting all devices, clearing data, resetting my BT router. Beginning to despise all of the Google devices around my home

I also have the same issue and have tried all the resets, removing and adding the device. It’s only started in the past few weeks and worked fine for the last year. Very frustrating.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this up.

We're sorry to hear about this. Since you have already tried a series of steps and none of this worked, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest Mini devices so we can check on it further?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information.
  5. Under "Technical information," find Cast firmware: X.XXX.XXXXX.

Looking forward to your responses.

Best,

Princess

Hey folks,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To further isolate the issue, please try setting up your device using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Nest Mini). Once done, check if your device will have the same behavior.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey there,

We just want to check if you have seen our response posted above. Let us know if you have tried the suggested steps above, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Best,

Princess

I will be trying the two mobile test today and will get back to you. Thanks

I don’t have two phones… will need a few days to try this with some friends. Am I supposed to have 4 speakers and the display all connected to a hot spot?

Hey RMartin,

Thanks for trying.  To confirm, have you tried using a different phone to see if you will have the same issue when setting up the device? Also, could you check if your router has iPV6 enabled? You will need to call your router provider for help.

@JT-is-me: You just need to try connecting one of your devices on a different network like mobile hotspots, to see if it will have the same behavior.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey Agueybana,

Sounds like a plan! Keep us in the loop if this does the trick.

Turning off IPV6 looks to have fixed my issues.

Hello again Agueybana,

Wonderful — I'm happy this resolves the issue with your Google Nest Mini. Let me know if you still have questions and concerns; otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Kind regards,
Lovely

Hi, I tried it on a hotspot and it worked ok for the 10 mins testing. It is still having a glitch when its on wifi (connected to a BT smart hub 2) even when its right next to it. The Home app spins for ages when I try to look at the settings of the Home app and about 2 mins later comes up with the message 'problem connecting'.  If I try it again it will show the settings. On the home app front page the devices show 'loading' for ages too and again the settings for each device are just giving spinning on a white screen. Could the issue be the Home app connection and not the devices? This oocurs even when in the same room as the router. Issues only happened recently having worked fine for months before.

Hi Juni, yes I do. I’m trying to find out the answer to the question asked about my router and iPV6 so will get back in the next couple of days. I still have the ‘glitch’ error. Thanks

Hi,

This is info from my router admin setup.

Hub IPv6 status: Enabled

IPv6 network status:Enabled

IPv6 WAN details
DNS:IPv4 Only

I have had BT run some diagnostics and the router is working fine. I have factory reset it and tried again with the Google speakers but they are still saying there is a glitch. The settings for each device take ages to show up on the Google Home app.

Hi RMartin,

Let's go ahead and try disabling the iPv6 network on your router. You will need help from your router provider to do this. Some of the users reporting that disabling the iPv6 has fixed the issue.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

I've been following this thread and will see if disabling IPV6 fixes my issue. Same as OP.
