Nest mini lists artist top 3 songs or "doesn't understand" instead of playing music

I recently came home after a couple months of work up north and my nest mini seems to have no longer understood that I want it to play music by a specific artist or understand what I'm saying when I want to play a song by that specific artist, even tho it's one of the top 3 songs it just listed. Other artists or their music play perfectly fine tho. Examples of what I've asked and responses:

Hey Google, play music by Unknown Brain = Unknown Brain has many songs. Here are the top 3: Superhero, MATAFAKA, and Why Do I?

Hey Google, play Roots by Unknown Brain = sorry, I don't understand

Hey Google, play Superhero by Unknown Brain = sorry, I don't understand

Hey Google, play music by Three Days Grace = okay here's Three Days Grace on YouTube Music

Hey Google, play Time of Dying by Three Days Grace = okay here's Time of Dying by Three Days Grace

Hey Google, play I am Machine by Three Days Grace = I am Machine by Three Days Grace, here it is on YouTube Music

Is it just messing up or some sort of update that it needs or what?? I've had it for over 3 years now but from what I've read people have had it for 5+ years with no issues

Hi Bustrodux,

Thanks for posting here in the community forum. It sounds like your Nest Mini isn't playing some music requests. I´m happy to assist you. Here are a few things you can try.

Restart your Nest Mini: A quick restart might help! Often, simply unplugging it from the power source for a minute and then plugging it back in can fix minor glitches. Just wait for it to boot up completely, and you should be good to go.

Try phrasing your request differently: While "Hey Google, play Roots by Unknown Brain" should work, sometimes Google Assistant interprets things a little differently. You can try:

  • "Hey Google, play the song Roots by Unknown Brain."
  • "Hey Google, on YouTube Music, play Roots by Unknown Brain" (if YouTube Music is your default or the app that you want to play music on).

I hope this information helps,

Daniel.

I've tried resetting it already and didn't fix, I'm heading back down tomorrow and will try to phrase it differently

Hello Bustrodux,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated.
Try to rephrase the way that you request a song in your Google Nest mini and let me know how it goes to get further assistance.

Best regards,
Daniel.
