Nest not playing news per assistant settings

Rebooted the nest max.  Phone is on same wifi network.  Say "...Google, play the news..." , and device does not play news in order of google assistant settings.

Thanks for posting and I’m sorry if listening to news isn’t going the way you want it to ― a few questions: what is your current location? Was playing news in order working before or are you trying to customize the way you listen to news?

 

To start with, you can customize it by doing the steps below:

 

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Nest speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Tap Assistant settings > News.
  6. Add or remove news sources.

 

The next feature is only available in the US. If you are in the US, you can change your news playlist format, follow these steps:

 

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2.  Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Nest speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  5. Tap Assistant settings > News.
  6. To decide which news format you prefer, tap Change news playlist format.

Perfect! I'm happy to hear that you are able to play news now on your Nest Hub Max. It's possible that our news partners updated their system that may have caused the issue.
