Nest speaker pausing instead of broadcasting to specific device/room

Using any Google mini or Nest speaker, I can still broadcast to all devices by saying "hey google, broadcast.." but when I ask to broadcast to a specific device, it will now say "got it, pausing (device)" when it used to broadcast my message to that device.  It started happening about a month ago, around the same time google stopped giving me "a little more context" after asking if I wanted "a little more context"  I have restarted all of the devices and rebooted the router several times.  I've seen several other threads about both issues, but no answers so far.

Hi Eatingcheetos,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let's check it out. A few questions: what Nest speakers do you have aside from your Google Home Mini? May I know the exact commands you're giving? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Even though it's working when using the general command to broadcast to all devices, let's check out the individual devices for the "Do not disturb" feature. Follow the steps below and make sure they're disabled:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. In Home View > tap the device card on a speaker or display to set Do not disturb for.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings > Notifications and digital wellbeing
  4. Tap the slider on On or off Off for Do not disturb.

For more information about broadcast, check out this guide.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

tried all of those steps, and it still seems to be the same issue when using the google mini, or Nest mesh router.  I can broadcast to all devices by saying "ok google, broadcast" then wait for google to say "what's the message?", but when I ask google to broadcast to a specific device, it will instead say "ok, pausing (device)".  It does seem to work when I broadcast from my android phone

Hi Eatingcheetos,

Thanks for the response. May I know what Nest devices you have there? How far are they from the main router and from each other? Are all of them on the same Wi-Fi network, under the same home structure, with different rooms on your Google Home app? Are they all under 1 account? What is the exact command that you're trying to give?

Have them located close to your router/modem and try to broadcast on a specific device and tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,  They are all close enough that a mesh test shows a strong signal for all the devices.  They are all on the same network and same home structure assigned to different rooms and on the same account.  The exact command is "broadcast to [room]" I've used that command for years without issue, but recently instead of saying "what's the message?" google says "ok, pausing [room]".

Now here's the good news, I just did a factory reset of all the devices last weekend, and set it all back up. That seems to have fixed the issue.  Thanks everyone for your support.
