Nest speakers/hub not playing Spotify playlist

When I ask one of my Mini's (2nd gen) or Nest Hub (2nd gen) to play one of my Spotify playlists, I get the confirmation that it will play the playlist, but then it just starts playing a random song, or a song from an album with a similar title or a song I've recently listened to on my phone, or will just to nothing. This has been bugging me for two weeks. I couldn't find any similar issues on the Spotify community board, and Spotify helpdesk suggested it may be a Google issue.

What I've tried so far;

  • Checked if smart shuffle on the playlists is off - which it is.
  • Unlinked my Spotify account from Google Assistant; removed the app on my phone, reinstalled the app, relinked to Google Assistant.
  • Reset my Nest speakers.

All to no avail. Are others having the same issue?

Thanks for bringing this up.

 

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this with your Google Nest speakers. Since you've mentioned that it only happens on Spotify, I'd like to check if you also tried testing other music services like YouTube or TuneIn? Also, could you send us a short video clip of what's happening every time you try to play music from Spotify?

 

Lastly, could you try some of the commands listed here so we can check if you are also experiencing the same? Listen to music on Google Nest speakers and displays

Thanks for the follow-up! I spent about two hours yesterday unlinking my account, removing the app etc. and oddly enough, it now seems to work, although I need to use different commands than two months ago. In English it works fine, but in Dutch it's more like "will it work or not?". I'll post again if the problem returns.

Thanks for the update, and we're glad to know that you can now play your playlist on Spotify. Let's continue to monitor your device since you're still having issues when using a different assistant language on your speaker.
