No music from home speakers

A few days ago, both my Home mini and my regular google home speaker started having an issue. When I tell them to play music, they say the standard "OK, playing [music] on youtube music" which is then immediately followed by "Sorry, something went wrong. When you're ready, give it another try".

Works fine in my car using android auto. I have rebooted the speakers and tried different music services and still have the same issue. All other commands work fine. There is no reported issue with the youtube music service that I'm aware of.

I've checked all the relevant settings that I can think of. This happens with direct commands and with automations that cue music to play.

seems to also be affecting my ability to play other media, like videos on youtube.

Hi @tberns

It sounds frustrating that your Google Home speakers aren't playing music. Here are a couple more things to try to get them working again:

  • Unlink and relink your music service: Sometimes the connection between Google Home and your music service can get glitchy. Try unlinking and then relinking your preferred music service (Spotify, Youtube Music, etc.) in the Google Home app. Here's how to do it:

    • Open the Google Home app.
    • Tap on the settings cog icon.
    • Find the "Music" setting and tap it.
    • Choose your default music service and unlink it.
    • Then relink your music service by following the on-screen prompts.
  • Restart your router: A wider network issue could be affecting your speakers' ability to connect to the internet and stream music. Try restarting your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in.

If you've already tried these steps, here are some additional things to consider:

  • Check for Google Home app updates: Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app. Outdated apps can sometimes cause functionality issues.

  • Factory reset your Google Home speakers (last resort): If none of the above solutions work, you may need to factory reset your Google Home speakers. This will erase all your settings and customization, so only try this as a last resort.

If you're still having trouble after trying all of these suggestions, it might be helpful to contact our Google Support directly. They can provide more specific troubleshooting steps based on your individual situation.

Best,

Brandon.

I've tried all of that except resetting my devices, as the chance that both speakers (hub and home mini) would both need resetting at the same time seems a bit far-fetched.

@tberns,

I understand your concern about resetting both speakers. It is true that a factory reset is unlikely to be necessary for both devices at the same time. However, since we've exhausted most other options, resetting one or both Google Home devices could potentially resolve the issue. Would you be comfortable trying a factory reset on one of the speakers to see if it helps?

Best,

Brandon.
