Overcorrecting group delay for bluetooth connected home mini

Hi, I was wondering if there was a solution to this issue I'm having. I've seen several other people on the forum share the same issue and those threads are being closed with no solution.

So I have 2 nest speakers, a Nest Audio and a Nest Mini gen2. I have them both setup in a group speaker configuration.

The Nest mini is connected via Bluetooth to a Bluetooth receiver connected to some speakers.

From what I understand the group delay setting basically offsets the audio timing forward to account for any possible delay (I refer to this as "negative delay").

The issue is that the Nest mini is adding a lot of negative delay to the sound by default, seemingly to account for Bluetooth latency, however the compensation is excessive and results in the Mini's Bluetooth audio being about 0.5s ahead of the other speakers in the group. This cannot be corrected by adding negative delay to the other speakers since the Google home app will only allow you to add a maximum of 0.2s of negative delay.

I tried connecting the Bluetooth adapter to my Nest Audio instead and it worked perfectly! Both the Nest Mini's speaker audio and the Nest Audio's Bluetooth audio were perfectly in sync (with only about 20ms of delay needed).

This seems to be a firmware issue with the Nest Mini. But I'm wondering if there is a workaround or if maybe I'm just missing something. I've tried a variety of troubleshooting steps but so far no dice.

Any help would be appreciated.

EXACTLY! in same boat, on here hoping to find answers. Hopefully for both us someone chimes in soon!

Yeah, I'm really confident that this is a firmware issue. If someone on the moderation team could pass this on to the development team then maybe this problem could be solved sooner rather than later. But it seems this forum is quite inactive. 😢

@Imilleson Well I've got some good news. It seems like this issue is resolved for me. After 3 weeks of using my Nest Audio as a Bluetooth adapter and my Nest mini as a speaker (what a waste of a good Nest Audio), I decided to give this another try. And much to my surprise the Nest mini was playing music via Bluetooth while perfectly synced to the Nest Audio. I'm not sure if there was an update that fixed this issue. But perhaps this issue could have been caused by my Wi-Fi network. Since the last time I tried this configuration I moved house and connected all my smart devices (including the Nest speakers) to my ISP's router instead to my own access point router (as I had it previously set up).
I suggest you give this another try and see if it works for you. If not perhaps try connecting your Nest devices to a different network and see if that makes a difference.

Hey patben8,

I am glad to hear the issue has been resolved, and your device is working as intended from here. With that being the case, I am going to lock the thread at this time to keep content fresh. If you run into any questions from here, please feel free to create a new post.

Best regards,

Jake
