Playing BBC Radio on Home Hub

I have always been able to play BBC radio stations on my Home Hub by asking 'play radio 4', but today it just responds 'i can't do that on here'. What has changed?

Well, I didn't change any settings or reset any devices but they all work fine again now. Very odd.

This has started in the last couple of weeks and happens intermittently. Unless it is sorted out soon we will be replacing our google speakers with something else.

Of course, this issue got fixed. But it has now reoccurred.

If you ask a Google Home device to "Play BBC Radio 4" you'll again get a "Duh?" response.

My partner is having the same problem.  It's user specific in some way because I can get it to stream BBC services on the same device as normal. For them, it doesn't work at all.

Just like others, BBC radio is no longer playable on both my Home and speaker. Worked yesterday, but now the above message on both devices.

Same here. All devices. I can no longer set a radio alarm to play a BBC radio channel. Yet my friends speaker is working fine.

Are you and your friend using different Internet Service Providers? I have the problem and am using Virgin.

Same for me - deleting the devices fixed it temporarily, but it has recurred.

Mine worked last night and it let me set a radio alarm for BBC Radio 4. Gone again now though. Getting the message again. Reported it as feedback.

Same problem. Playing Radio 4 is 90% of what I do with my speakers.
Behaviour is erratic - one stopped working and was then OK again. I have another one down now.

The BBC support site dated 5th April 2023 says that this is a known issue and 'Under investigation', whatever that means.

There's been a long running battle between BBC and google about licensing/payment for content. I wonder if it is related to this.

Same problem. Was actually listening to BBC World Service and tried to change to Radio4 when I got the message on my Hub - but it then continued happily streaming the World Service! 
Incidentally, I can still stream from TuneIn Radio, but not the BBC… 

Same problem on all my devices, Hub Max, Hub v1 and Mini v2.
I had the issue last week after the Virgin outage and thought there might be a connection. Normal service was resumed the following morning. But the problem is back, and it is a showstopper. 
Now looking like a BBC/Google issue that is going to upset LOTS of people. PLEASE get this fixed FAST.

To clarify, I can stream some stations from TuneIn, but get a different “can’t do that” message when trying for BBC via TuneIn “I looked for BBC Radio 4 on TuneIn but it either isn’t available or can’t be played right now”. 

It is making me think this is some sort of ‘permissions’ issue…

If you install the BBC sounds app on the phone, you can cast from it to your Google devices.
