Radio streaming problems

LHunt
Community Member

I bought and set up my google nest audio YESTERDAY  - so it is brand new.

Set up all gone to plan.

I ask it to play a radio station - it does very happily, but then stops after 5 minutes exactly. The Home app still says it is playing but there is no sound out of the speaker. I have tried pairing to another speaker - but the same thing happens. I have tried different streaming services, i.e tunein and global player, the same thing happens.

Happy listening - 5 minutes - cut dead - but the app says it is still casting.

This is REALLY frustrating.

I have turned off and on the router and the google nest audio - no better.

I have rebooted the nest audio and restarted from scratch  - no better

I have shut down and re opened the google home app - no better

I have restarted my phone - no better.

It will play spotify for hours - happily.

Please help - or else this is going back ASAP.

Thank you

Louisa

Hi LHunt,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Google Nest Audio when playing radio stations. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

I understand that you have tried all the basic steps, here are some advanced troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. If a speaker or display doesn’t play the requested radio station, be more specific with the voice command or ask for the station in a different way. You can try to search by name, frequency, or call sign.
  2. Check Radio Station Availability: Verify if the radio station you're trying to play is still broadcasting online or if there's any reported outage, also check if the name of the station has not changed.
  3. Update Nest device: Check for any available software updates for your Nest speaker.

Last Resort: Factory Reset: If nothing works, consider factory resetting your Google Nest Audio. Be aware this erases all settings. Please check the following article to Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.

You can also check the following guide to Listen to radio on your Google Nest speaker or display or Link your radio services.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mario

I have exactly the same issue affecting all my Google home devices (Mini's, Nest Displays, Nest Speakers) which has been ongoing for 6mths+ now and is incredibly frustrating.

It does the same for TuneIn, Global Player and Rayo.

I notice that if I reboot the entire network which is made up of 3 x LinkSys WiFi6 mesh hubs it may work for half a day before reverting back to only working for a few minutes. I thought it might be IPv6 related so even tried disabling that with no luck.

I can successfully listen to TuneIn radio using the app on my Pixel 8 but if I cast to a Google device it will eventually stop and just say "Buffering" (on the phone app).

I might have to revert to using my old Alexa's 😞

Thanks for taking the time to reply Mario but unfortunately the steps you have listed are ones that I have already tried and they did not resolve the issue.

I have done a factory reset of the devices, removed them from my home and re-add them but still with no luck. Note that this is happening on more than one device since I have multiple Nest Hubs, Minis and Nest Audio speakers.

I have also tried different radio apps with the same result (TuneIn, Global Player and Rayo).

I can stream Spotify and YouTube Music with no issues.

As a temporary workaround I use the TuneIn radio app on my Pixel 8 and use the Nest Hub as a Bluetooth speaker but this is not ideal since it requires my mobile to be in range.

Kind regards,
Nick
