Re: Chromecast won't stay connected to WiFi

I'm having HyperOptic / Google Home issues too. My Google Home speaker used to work fine in my old flat with a different provider and router. When I moved into the new flat I used my work phone hotspot for a few days set to the 2.4GHz band, and the Google Home speaker connected to that fine. Then when I had my HyperOptic router installed, WiFi in general works for streaming etc, but it just does not want to interact properly with the Google Home.

When I go through the setup, it gets all the way done and appears fine, but unlike other times, it doesn't give you the mini speech at the end of the setup where it says something like "Welcome to your new Google Home" like it does when I've set up on other routers or phone hotspots. When I then say "Hey Google", it picks up my speech, but doesn't reply. It glows the four coloured dots for about 10 seconds and then says "Your Google Home has not been set up yet, go to the Google Home App". I've tried changing the security down in my router settings from WPA3 to WPA2, since that is what my phone hotspot was set to, so I thought I should try emulate its settings as close as possible, and also ChatGPT suggested to do that. I also tried setting my 2.4GHz network's channel (Didn't know what this was before today, learning something new every day!) to 1 (again suggested by ChatGPT), and also to the next lowest unused channel in the local area (for me it was channel 2, HyperOptic router login page has a functionality to scan the local area for which channels are being used)

None of this seemed to work.

Additionally, my JVC TV has WiFi connectivity and also displays the same behaviour as in the video posted further up this chain, connecting and disconnecting every 5 seconds or so, maybe this is related)

Hi there!

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Google Home speaker is not functioning correctly on your HyperOptic network despite various troubleshooting attempts. Help's here!

Let's try the following:

  • Power Cycle: Turn off your HyperOptic router, modem (if separate), and Google Home speaker. Wait for a few minutes, then turn them back on one by one, starting with the modem.
  • Factory Reset: If power cycling doesn't work, consider factory resetting your Google Home device. Depending on the model you have. This will erase all settings. Refer to this article: Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays.
  • Check Google Home App Settings: Ensure that the Google Home app is up-to-date and that all settings are correct.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,
Melany
