Regression for multiple users: Erroneous "Please log in with the Google Home App"

Approximately 100 users on Reddit /r/googlehome are complaining that their speakers have been intermittently responding "Please log in with the Google Home App" to arbitrary commands, in the default assistant voice.

For some (myself included), one speaker will often respond to the command as expected, while another will simultaneously respond with the login error. For others, the command would work on retry, suggesting that the user was never logged out in the first place.

I'm not seeing any official acknowledgement of this regression, only a few scattered posts from frustrated users and no public response. Multiple users have attempted performing hard resets on their devices, with no improvement.

Has this been escalated to the appropriate development team? When can we expect a fix?

Steps to reproduce:

This issue is intermittent, so these reproduction steps may take a few tries. However, attempting it just now with two speakers in different rooms, it happened right away.

  1. Say "Hey Google, how's the weather?"
  2. Repeat until issue arises

Actual behavior:

A speaker responds "Please log in with the Google Home App" in the default Assistant voice

Expected behavior:

The nearest speaker replies with the weather, in the user's configured Assistant voice. No other speakers respond.
