Routines & Google Assistant malfunctions on Nest Hub Gen 1 and Gen 2

Hello,

I just got out of a call with Google Nest Support where we tried troubleshooting this to no avail - but I'm writing also here as there is an update.

So - I have 3 Nest Hubs, 1 Gen1 and 2 Gen2. The Gen1 was working perfectly with my routines until I discovered that it was the only one doing so. I went on reddit and found that removing all of your devices and starting again would fix things.

It actually broke them 100%.

At the moment, telling any of the hubs standard routines like "Goodmorning" will just get a "Goodmorning to you" reply - it won't run the standard Google Home routine.

I tried recreating one of the routines for my TV and Soundbar where it will turn on both of them - this one was working correctly on the Gen1. Now it will bring up a google search.

The update is this - after putting down the call I tried pressing the "Play" button on the app to see if it would at least work like that, and from one of the hubs I got the message "I'm sorry, the Routines function is not yet supported in the language setup on your device, please change it with another language on your assistant settings"

So I went on Google Home App > Settings > Google Assistant > Manage All Google Assistant Settings > Languages and it states I am using Italian, which is supported by Google Routines

Create and manage Routines for Google Home automations - Android - Google Nest Help

Ideas, apart from getting Alexas?

I don't know if this was it - I added "English" as language in Google Assistant and now my routines seem to be working fine.

So I had to remove all other devices, add everything back in, then added English as well as Italian to the languages spoken by Assistant, and now it works.

Seems an awful lot of troubleshooting just to turn on my TV.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties performing the routines. It's definitely frustrating when things don't work the way they should be. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

I recommend deleting the previous routine and setting up a new one. After trying that step, please perform a power cycle.

Let me know how it goes after trying these steps. I'm happy to assist further if needed.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I'm really frustrated with the Google Home system's routines, especially the Good Night and Good Morning routines. The feature that's supposed to run the Good Morning routine when the alarm is dismissed just doesn't work. When I contacted a technician, they told me that the Good Morning routine should only start when I say "Good Morning," which contradicts the functionality described.

This issue has been reported multiple times here and on Reddit, yet it remains unresolved. This feature was an essential part of my daily routine, and its absence has significantly reduced my use of the Google Home system.

Why is such a basic and advertised feature not working as intended? It's disappointing that this problem hasn't been addressed. Has anyone found a solution, or are we stuck with this broken feature?
