Setting reminders - voice match

Fernweh
Community Member

When asking it to set a reminder, I now get told "I can only share personal information once i verify your voice. Try going to assistant settings then checking your voice match settings."

I have used reminders for years. I do not have any need or desire to have voice match.

I've checked the settings and I don't see how to skip or disable this requirement. Assistance would be appreciated.

I'm in the exact same situation. I tried turning Voice Match off and personal results on, but it just tries to make me set up Voice Match again, which I  do not want to do.  I have a family that all use the same device through my account right now, and there is no reason or desire to use voice match.  We all use the same calendar.  Please allow us to turn this unnecessary feature off if we want.

Just started experiencing the same issue within the last 24 hours.   Never had voice match enabled.   Yesterday, I could set reminders without a problem.   Today I'm told "I can only share personal information once i verify your voice. Try going to assistant settings then checking your voice match settings."      I haven't made any changes in the Google Home app.    Any suggestions on how to get it working again would be appreciated.

Hi folks,

@Fernweh, @ecreek, @Gerg, this is not the experience we want you to have, let me help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Also, if multiple people are using the same speaker or display, everyone who wants to hear, set, and manage personal reminders must set up Voice Match, even the person who set up the device originally. This prevents others from hearing and managing personal reminders.

Here’s how to edit the voice match feature:

  1. Make sure the customer's mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as the speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. At the top right, tap the account (the icon with the customer’s initial or profile picture).
  4. Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the down arrow icon > choose another account or Add another account.
  5. From Home, tap Settings > Google Assistant > Voice Match.
  6. Tap Add device > select the devices the customer wants to teach to recognize their voice > Continue.
  7. Follow the rest of the prompts.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan

Thank you Dan. However, those first steps did not change anything. And your second set of steps are the steps to do exactly what we DO NOT WANT.

I am using both Home mini and Nest mini. I have been using them for reminders WITHOUT voice match for 3+ years. I DO NOT NEED or WANT voice match.

This started last Wednesday. What is even more troubling to me is that I have not done any updates recently. Therefore, Google obviously pushed UNAUTHORISED updates.

I think the reminders are fantastic and are one of my main uses but I will never authorise a voice match. Therefore, Google minis are now useless to me.

I have now done all updates AND a full factory reset. Voice match is still mandatory despite the app indicating that it is OFF.

Hi @Dan_A , thank you for your assistance in this matter.

You state, "if multiple people are using the same speaker or display, everyone who wants to hear, set, and manage personal reminders must set up Voice Match". However, only one person is using my Google smart speaker. How can I hear, set, and manage personal reminders without using Voice Match?

@Dan_A  I posted a more thorough detailed post on the issue here on the google assistant community support.  This is an issue with the google home device.

As @Fernweh mentioned your steps require enabling voice match, which is not what we want.

However, if we do follow your steps to enable voice match, then you could help explain how to replicate the behaviour we had previously.  Today, there are 4 of us sharing a google account.  When one of us sets a reminder through google home, the reminder shows up in the calendars on all of our phones (for that shared google account).

If we switch to enabling voice match, do we need to use 4 personal accounts or can you have 4 voices matched with 1 shared account?

If we need to use 4 personal accounts, then when one of us sets a reminder, how can that reminder be put into the calendars of all 4 personal accounts?  Do we need to set up a family, add all 4 personal accounts to the family?  Then would it work if in the google assistant settings, we set Calendar > Your Calendar > Family ?

Thanks

Not sure if anyone can help but I've never had voice match set up on my google devices at home as I don't really need it. I've never had any issues setting up reminders but now randomly, over the past few weeks, I cannot have google set up reminders from my google devices, says I need to set up voice match.

I do not want to set up voice match so is there anyway to get it back to the way it was where I could set up reminders without it?

We also just started having this problem today with our Google home.

When we ask it to set a reminder it no now says:. "I can only share personal information once i verify your voice. Try going to assistant settings then checking your voice match settings."

Any tips or help would be appreciated

I as well just started having this PROBLEM. I hope it is an issue that will be resolved quickly. I've used and relied on reminders for years.  But, I will never set up voice match. My Google minis will be for sale or in the garbage real fast if this isn't considered a bug that needs to be fixed.

Same complaint here. It won't let me set any kind of reminder or calendar appointments without voice match, which I have no desire to use.  I tried once in my household and it was horribly buggy.  Help articles say you can turn off voice match but turn personal results back on, but when I try to do that, it tries to force me to set up voice match.  I'm getting much closer to tossing all my google devices as well because of the constant removal of features or making existing ones more annoying to use. Voice recognition has gotten worse WITHOUT voice match enabled, and it is/was much worse with it enabled.  I hate being forced to use features that I have no desire to use.

Is Google taking note of this issue or just busy laying people off

+1

Started noticing this issue very recently, within the last week.

Engaged Google Support via chat, and was informed that the Voice Match requirement to set reminders on Google Nest devices has always existed. They acknowledged that it was odd that it was working for me before.

As this post implies, it's not just me. Looks like a requirement was recently changed, or perhaps it wasn't properly enforced until now. I just wish they hadn't started doing it silently.

Me too.  This just started happening last week.  Google flipped a switch somewhere.  I already have the Nest Hubs attached to their own Google account.  Voice Match is unnecessary.

Hey folks,

This is related to a similar trending issue on this link wherein users have issues setting up a reminder on their Google Home/Nest devices. I suggest following the main thread for updates and additional troubleshooting steps.

The link you provided is just re-opening this post (my post). And, the "updates" and "troubleshooting" provided were not helpful.

Hey folks,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. Please check if you have the same issue when setting up and checking events on your calendar. Also, toggle on/off the "Personal Results" on the Google Home app. Once done, reboot your devices then try again to set up a reminder.

Follow these steps below to know-how:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home > Settings (gear icon).
  3. Under “Features,” tap Google Assistant > Personal results.
  4. Tap the name of your device.
    • To turn on personal results: Check the box next to the device name.
    • To turn off personal results: Uncheck the box next to the device name.

If the troubleshooting steps don't fix the issue, please go ahead and factory reset your devices to refresh all the settings.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

I have already done all of this including the factory reset (as mentioned yesterday)

@Muddi

I toggled personal results off and then back on for the google home device.  This resolved the issue. No restart was required.  Thank you.

Hi 113pigeon,

Sweet! I'm glad to hear that turning on/off personal results on the Google Home app resolved the issue.

@Fernweh: Could you tell us what country you are located in? Also, have you tried rebooting your devices after toggling the personal results of your device?

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi, thanks for helping out. It looks like the link you provided just sends us back to this original page -- would you be able to provide an updated link?

DHey folks,

Perfect! I'm happy to hear that everyone can set up a reminder now without setting up a voice match. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread after 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

@Fernweh: No need to go to access the link since it's a post from another thread that was merge here.

@Chutad: We're all humans here :).

Cheers,
