Streaming UK radio to a smart speaker.

  • From when Google Home was first set-up I have consistently been able to ask Google to play  Radio 4, Radio 6 Music etc etc. Suddenly, starting yesterday 01 April, when asking Google that exact same request I get the response "Sorry I can't do that here."
  • I have completely reset my Home speaker set-up after factory resetting one of the speakers.
  • Anybody got an answer to this problem?
  • Maybe it is an April Fool hack!
  • Thanks for any help.

Same for us spenbroc, suddenly stopped working after years of being ok, I’ve tried all the so called fixes and still nothing, so having to play bbc radio stations through the tv not ideal! Very annoying and no notice, so basically all our high tech we spend money on no longer works, 😡😡😡😡

Yes agreed - it is very annoying and just happened at the end of March this year. When did you notice the change?

The daft thing is that USA radio stations e.g. NPR Radio work fine!

You can 'cast' your phone audio sounds e.g. BBC Radio station from your phone to a smart speaker. Start the broadcast on your phone then open Google Home, select the speaker and cast your audio from there. Think that is the best work around for the problem.

I have raised a 'case' with Google and await their reply.

Yes exactly the same time it had been working/streaming up till then fine, obviously they’ve changed how it streams so I guess it’s a wait and see, definitely not rushing out to buy another speaker, so using the tv to play. Hopefully it will get sorted but not holding out much hope 🤷🏼‍♂️

There are a few others with the same problem, I have 3 speakers all not working.  Tried similar changes to see if its my setup with no joy.

I and others have logged reports to BBC and google so hopefully it is being investigated

Just had an email from the Google Community mailer asking if this issue is solved.

My answer as follows:

No, I have not found an answer.

I am waiting for a reply from the Google tech people. Hopefully they will have an answer soon!
