Speaker group only plays on one of the speakers

Nest hub (2nd gen)

Nest audio

Google home mini

I had a group (named downstairs) set up with these devices that worked for several months until a couple weeks ago. I would regularly play music to this group without issue. Then it just stopped. When I would play to downstairs I started to get the "Playing music on downstairs. Sorry something went wrong" message.

I deleted the group and created a new one with the same devices and a different name. When I played music to the new group it would only play on one of the devices even though they were all part of the group. It didn't matter which device I told to play music with this new group. It would always play to the same device. I tried deleting the group and creating a new group adding one device at time. It keeps defaulting to playing on the same single device. I tried rebooting all devices but the same things happen. When I open up home I can see that all devices are a part of the group.

All devices are connected to the same home and wifi. Each device will play on its own. The only function that appears not to be working is the group function.

I recently got rid of all my Amazon devices to move over to Google. I have been planning to expand throughout my house. I'm hoping there is a quick and easy solution for this.

Thank you

I'm having similar issues with my 6 speakers. When grouped, the music just stutters.

I'm losing confidence in google devices.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out, could you both provide your Nest speaker’s firmware version and the Google Home app version?

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Juni

Hey folks,

Chiming in, I just wanted to follow up on this. Please provide the firmware version of your devices so we can further isolate the issue.

Cheers,

Muddi

I removed my Google home mini and everything is working fine now. The problem appears to be related to this device. I haven't thrown it away yet. Hoping it can be fixed. Here is the info on the home mini:

System firmware version: 324896

Cast firmware: 1.56.324896

Hi Robbwthomas,

Thanks for coming back to us. To confirm, have you tried creating a new speaker group with just the Google Home Mini and another speaker? This will help us check if the device will have the same behavior when in a smaller group.

Cheers,

Muddi

All good. Tossed my Google nest mini with the garbage. Problem solved.  Other speakers working well in groups. Hoping they have a longer life.
