Speaker groups only play to one random device.

Hi not sure if this is a result of the sonos lawsuit or not but my speaker groups will only play on random device when using spotify or apple music for android. (even trying via the home app itself clicking play music)

I will admit I am on a linksys mesh velop system but that worked fine before for over a year. I even created a smaller group that would be using only one node from the mesh.

I have attempted the following:

  • changed all the chromecast audios to 2.4 ghz
  • factory reset each chromecast audio and re-setup them up.
  • changed the devices back to the 5ghz

Nothing seems to work, Essentially muliroom/speaker groups seem useless right now.

I know some other people have had similar issues reading through posts on here and reddit but nothing remotely shows a solution.

Would be nice to just hear, sorry till google and sonos come to an agreeement only casting to single device will work for now or some such but this is hugely frustrating. Yes I know I didn't invest much, the Chromecast audios were 20/30 pounds when i bought them but they did work and now they don't.

Hi @Jake - I'm having the exact same issue but with a speaker group containing a Polk Magnifi Mini and a Nest Audio.

These two speakers could be casted to at the same time within a speaker group up until last week (worked for about 7 months prior), but now only one speaker plays in the group. Each speaker can be casted to individually just fine.

The Polk settings in the Google Home App shows the Cast firmware is 1.36.145853 and not 1.52.272222 or above which is what has been mentioned as a potential factor - however I don't know if Polk are planning to upgrade their firmware for my device as it is no longer a model on sale. However as Elfstone has mentioned in his other thread (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Speaker-groups-no-longer-working-from-smartphone/m...), his devices all have the latest Cast firmware yet he is still having the same issue.

I've tried resetting all devices & deleting/re-creating groups, but all made no difference.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ali

Hey folks,

Thanks for the update.

Make sure your devices are within 15-20 feet of your router and connected to the same network. Are they working when you use voice commands in playing music to your speaker group? Also, have you tried reinstalling your Google Home app?

Best,

Alex

My issue has been resolved by resetting the WiFi router, the only thing I hadn't done - speaker group of two speakers now working as expected.

Cheers
