Speaker keeps ringing but no way to stop it remotely

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with my Google Nest speaker (named "Master Bedroom speaker"). It began ringing (possibly due to a timer, alarm, or call), but I was in another room. I tried the following:

  • Using voice commands from my phone: "Stop alarm/timer on Master Bedroom speaker"

  • Google Home app: no visible "Stop" or control buttons

  • Assistant reported: "There’s no alarm to stop"

  • I even typed commands manually and tried rebooting the app

Despite all this, the speaker kept ringing with no way to silence it remotely, which defeats the purpose of smart control. I eventually had to physically unplug the speaker. This was frustrating and defeats the convenience of a smart home setup.

This appears to be a software/UX flaw. Please escalate this issue:

  1. Enable a universal “Stop sound” override in the Home app for any device.

  2. Improve how desynced or “ghost” alarms/timers are handled.

I appreciate any help in preventing this from happening again. Thank you.

If you had another speaker near the one that's ringing you could possibly Broadcast a "Stop" command from the app.

Hi @ttalan,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand your Google Nest speaker began ringing without indicating if it was due to a timer, alarm, or call. It sounds frustrating to experience this, especially when it defeats the convenience of a smart home setup. I also appreciate the information you provided about the troubleshooting you performed to fix this by physically unplugging the speaker.

What's the model of your Google Nest speaker, and please let me know if you experienced the same issue after posting here in the community?

Since enabling a universal "Stop Sound" override and improving how "ghost" alarms/timers are handled are unavailable features, and as these may be useful, consider your needs and the needs of all Nest users. We're always looking for ways to improve, and we appreciate your feedback.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Anders
