Speakers say they can not connect to Phillips Hue Bridge, but Google Home App can

For a few months now, my Google Home Speakers (Original and Google Home Mini) can not control lights on Phillips Hue Bridge. They respond "Sorry, looks like Philips Hue is unavailable right now." However, I can control the lights perfectly fine from the Google Home App on Android.

I have tried:

  • rebooting the Phillips Hue Bridge
  • rebooting all the Google Home Speakers
  • rebooting the router
  • unlinking and relinking Phillips Hue Bridge in the Google Home App (numerous times)
  • removing and adding speakers to Google Home
  • asking Google Home Speakers to resync devices
  • checking all app and device firmwares are updated and current

This has worked fine for years, nothing has changed, no devices added or removed, no device changes, no ISP changes, etc. Nothing I have tried seems to change anything to get this to work again.

I've looked around online and many seem to have this same issue, but no one has seemed to find a working issue to this problem.

It makes no sense to me that the Google Home App can control them fine, but the Speakers can not.

Hopefully someone from Google sees this and can look into the issue, as it doesn't seem to be a issue with Google Home account connecting to the Phillips Hue Bridge (as that works fine), but a problem with the Google Speakers talking to the Google Home account to get to the Phillips Hue Bridge.

Thank you.

Hi there!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you’ve been experiencing with your Google Home speaker and your Phillips bulb lights. I understand that you cannot control your Phillips devices with the speaker, but they work really well if you control them through the Google Home App. No worries, help is here.

Here are some extra troubleshooting steps for you:

  1. Before proceeding to the next step, advise the customer to reboot the Google Home, WiFi router, and Philips Hue bridge.
    • Reboot Google Home
      1. From the Google Home device:
        1. Disconnect the power cable from the Google Home device.
        2. Wait a few seconds.
        3. Reconnect the power cable back into the Google Home device.
    • Reboot WiFi router
      1. Unplug the router from the power source for about 30 seconds and then plug the power source back into the router.
      2. Wait for the router to finish rebooting (normally takes about 1 or 2 minutes.).
    • Reboot your Philips Hue Bridge.
      1. Unplug the Philips Hue bridge from the power source for about 30 seconds and then plug the power source back into the bridge.
      2. Wait for the bridge to finish rebooting (normally takes about 1 or 2 minutes).
  2. Once everything is back on the network, try the next voice command:
    • Voice command: “Turn on <Light name>.”.
  3. If not working yet, follow the next:
    • On the Google Home App, go to settings, and under services, hit on Works with Google.
      1. Do you see Philips Hue listed under Linked Services? If it’s not here, force close the Google Home app and try again.

Note: If you are using a Hue Bridge 1.0, keep in mind that its performance is poor.

Tell me how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel.

So you didn't even bother to read what I posted at all, or you are a dumb AI bot.

I already said I tried everything that you posted. Your post is absolutely no help at all.

Hi @johnrb68

Thank you for your timely post and the comprehensive information you've provided.

I am sorry to hear that you still have the same issue, and thank you for performing some troubleshooting by yourself. Please could you provide me this information?

  • Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app and the Phillips Hue app and adding it once again?
  • What is the model of your smartphone?

Additionally, if you have not tried to uninstall and reinstall both apps and add the Phillips Hue once again, please try this process. Also, you can create a new Phillips Hue app, and then you can set it up on the Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,

Jeremy
