Hello @scragin

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest Community. I apologize for all the inconvenience with the Home App and your stereo. Don't worry; I'm happy to assist you with this situation.

To better assist you, I have some questions related to your device:

  • When did the issue start?
  • How often does it happen?
  • What troubleshooting steps have been done?
  • Are there error messages?
  • Can the device pair with other Bluetooth devices just fine?

In the meantime, I suggest to follow the next troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check if the Bluetooth device is turned on and has enough power or battery level.
  2. Check for possible nearby interference sources like other Bluetooth devices.
  3. Check if the speaker or display has the latest firmware, and if the Google Home app has the latest updates.
  4. Reboot both devices, then try to pair again.

Feel free to share more details with us and definitely we will find an answer for your situation.

Kind regards,

Douglas.

Thanks for the reply, Douglas. That appears to be a rarity in this thread in the Speakers and Displays topic:  "Having trouble with Speaker groups? Read this first"

That forum explains my problem. It turns out that even after the speaker was reset, it still showed in the app as being in a stereo pair. I just didn't scroll down far enough on the settings screen for the speaker. My speakers also take on their old names even though they have been factory reset. Suffice to say, and as the above referenced topic demonstrates, you, Google, have not solved the speaker groups problem and does not appear capable of doing so, which is pretty sad.
