Strange popping sound in my nest mini

limuremu
Community Member

Hello, I’ve just got my best mini about a month ago, and it’s been great so far. That being said, in the past week I’ve been hearing this sort or popping or cracking sound, similar to what you would hear if you had dust on a vinyl record and tried to play it. I haven’t heard it happen when the assistant is responding to me, but they don’t happen on a schedule or anything, more randomly. I’ve unplugged it and plugged it back in, rebooted it through the Home app, and tried plugging it into a different outlet. I’m pretty sure it’s not my wifi, and I’d like to avoid a factory reset if possible but I’m running out of options. Any help?

Hi folks,

I understand that the issue with the Nest Mini producing popping/clicking  sounds has been ongoing for quite some time, and I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused so far. Our team is actively working on a fix, but unfortunately, I do not have any additional updates to share at this time. Rest assured, I will continue to stay in touch with the team and provide updates on this thread as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Muddi

@pluri I believe @Muddi has left the conversation. Hopefully another Community Specialist who has ethics and morals will participate in a meaningful way in this thread instead of trying to "hide" the issue.  @olavrb @Alex_S

If not, we always have socials like TikTok that will bring negative publicity to Google forums and how it's managed.

I already sent this issue to audio and hardware publications. Sadly, still no feedback or any article on this matter...

I'm not a mod, I don't work for Google. I'm helping people with Nest Wifi on my free time. So not sure why you're tagging me, I can't do anything about this.

I don't work for Google.

Hi Yorkshireguy,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your popping noise concern. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. A few questions: when did it begin? Were there any recent changes made? Also, could you confirm by checking the link below if that is how you did the reset?

Factory reset Google Nest or Home speakers or displays

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Thank you for your response.

It started the day I set it up Thu, 16 Nov 2023  the day I purchased and swapped from 1st gen to 2 gen nest mini . Started cracking straight away.

No change mate as setting up .

Have factory reset twice per instructions and still the same .

Never popped when have older version  only newer version .

Hope this helps

Hello there,

It seems that you’re already working with the senior specialist. You can continue the conversation there so that they can sort this out and provide you with a resolution.

Warmly,
Alex

Hi .

Still no resolution,  all I have to do is submit feedback with a code every time the noise which can be lots in short space of time . And they are working to fix the problem.  But no update .

Kind regards

Hi Alex,

Any updates for Google nest mini popping sound?

Thanks

Elaine

HI Muddi,

While searching , I found this thread. I have 2 nest minis. Both are doing the popping/cracking sound.

I cant find any answer as to how to fix. I have unplugged and deleted them from app etc and still,  its popping. Will send the feedback through the nest. But what happens then?

Thanks

Elaine

Nothing happens!

You can open a Support Ticket, but the answers will drive you... well... MAD!

So... my advice to anyone at this point is to return the devices (if you can) and move to another ecosystem.

Well?

Nothing!

All devices still POPping... hard!

Still popping but not as much. Nothing from Google? I can't see anything new in the thread!

Why is this still marked as answered when it clearly is not? Nearly 600 posts on this topic, many recent. Fix this issue Google. We have multiple speakers with multiple firmware versions. All have the issue still.

Same here!

Google doesn't even get it right with firmware updates!

I opened a 2 topics about it. Check my posts.

Why? Because 15 fools gave @Muddi kudos or likes which is 14 more than that's needed to mark a problem as  "answered"

I just sent feedback. I have three minis that have all done this for a while now and it’s becoming more frequent. Is there a fix for this issue yet? I even sent a brand new speaker back to google to have it replaced due to the issue but the replacement does the same thing. Very frustrating

@Dead82head Lol. I just spat out my coffee with uncontrollably laughter after reading your request for an update. 🤣😅

That's why i did not waste my time with REPLACEMENTS!

How could any replacement FIX this severe problem, if GOOGLE does not confirm what the problem is????

DON'T waste your time!

You should send voice reports, come back to this thread regularly, and EXPOSE this to the MEDIA!

I know this forum software sucks big time, but next time I suggest putting in some effort. Because frankly, the same repetitive comments asking the same thing is almost like trolling. The answer is that that there is no answer despite some poster and mod misleading us: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Strange-popping-sound-in-my-nest-mini/m...

Kind of unfunny that the annoying noise happened twice as I sent this feedback. Is there an update on this?

pluri

@sr_vrd  No progress at all and no useful feedback from Google.
Product support is not existing.

You will ear a lot more... it's random...

Hello, are you also aware that this issue affects the Google Nest speakers (bigger ones?).

Pops and crackles at random. I have these grouped with the Nest mini speakers - also have the pops and crackles at different times. Turning off ultra-sensing does not work.

An update to this problem would be greatly appreciated - even if it's just to say you are still looking for a solution.

I am sure the hundreds of people posting on this thread will be appreciative of some response/activity to this issue.

On the NEST model (NOT MINI), turning off the "Ultrasound Sensing feature" seems to fix the issue.

On the NEST MINI (this topic is about the NEST MINI) it DOES NOT solve any issue!

Same problem here. Have three nest mini, they all have same problem. I’m done with google. Switching to Alexa speakers.

Will you be updating on this thread?

Blood. From. Stone.

Dear Muddi. The problem is getting worse, much worse. My speakers are popping every 30 seconds or so and it makes listening to anything on my nest speakers (I have 2 of them) intolerable. In short, they are no longer fit for purpose. Will you be offering refunds as there is clearly not going to be a fix for this. Please do not reply to this comment with the same list of troubleshooting. I've tried it all. As you are aware of the issue, you will also be aware that the troubleshooting does not work.

Update! Any chance you're going to keep your customers informed of what's going on then. Pitiful service from Google.
