Unable to Remove LifX bulb from Google Home

VinceC

Coming again to this community, this time with a linkage issue between LIFX and Google Home.  In a nutshell, I'm unable to remove a LIFX lightbulb from GH - regardless of what I do.

I only have one device, a lightbulb, which uses the LIFX app.  Initially, I had no issues linking LIFX and GH with this bulb correctly showing in GH.

I recently reset the bulb for a different use within LIFX, including giving it a new name.   It remains the only LIFX device I use and the only device which appears in my LIFX app account.

Now, however, when I link GH and LIFX, the old device name and new device name are both showing.  GH also indicates that I have 2 LIFX devices when I 'check for new devices' - even though LIFX only shows one.

First thing I tried was removing the device within LIFX and readding it.  I then also tried deleting both apps from my iPhone and re-sinstalled them.  GH still shows LIFX with 2 devices.

Can anybody help?

Thanks!

Thanks, Mike.  Your suggestion to remove the device in GH would have been the first thing I looked to do.  Unfortunately, this particular light's settings do not show an option to remove device.

Though there is an option to "Unlink LIFX", nothing happens when I attempt to click through.  What's more is that this light still shows in GH even after I've unlinked LIFX.

Here's a screenshot of what I see after unlinking LIFX.  The one bulb in our home that works with LIFX disappears from GH.  But this ornery device just won't be gone.

Any other ideas?  Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

We appreciate your suggestion @MikeClark, thanks for helping out.

@VinceC, we're sorry to hear about this. Have you already tried to set it up on a different home structure? Also, can you check if you can see LiFX on this link: https://goo.gle/3Tgat9k ? If you can see it available, you can try to delete or unlink your LiFX account and let's see if that would make any changes.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

Hi there Princess. Thanks for your reply and further

suggestions. Unfortunately, the situation hasn’t improved. I don’t see my LIFX account  In the list of the apps from the link that you sent.
And I still see two devices in GH for Lifx when I click for ‘checking new devices’ with LIFX. While in Lifx, I only have one device.
If you look at this screenshot you can see two devices called ‘front door light’ one is showing offline and one is showing on. In fact, These two bulbs are the same LIFX bulb.
When I unlink LIFX, the bulb that is showing as On will disappear. The one that showing off-line persists after LIFX is unlinked.

I’m not sure why Google home continues to think there’s a LIFX bulb even after the accounts are unlinked.
Nothing  I do seems to work

thanks again

Hi VinceC,

Thanks for the photo you shared. Have you already tried deleting your home and creating a new one?

Hi Princess.  I have factory reset our GH network - which was a major pain as it took at least 5-6 hours to re-add nearly 60 smart devices in our home through no less than 5 apps (and we’re still not done) - but I haven’t created a new home. I’d be willing to try it if it’s super easy/fast, ie I want to avoid a repeat of the factory reset effort at almost all costs.
What  I really need for this issue - and I suspect would be useful to countless other GH users - is the ability to deLete devices within GH directly rather than having to rely on a refresh from the 3rd party app. My case in point LIFX shows only 1 device but GH still believes there are  two connected through LIFX.

Have you guys at GH considered adding this most useful functionality to the GH app?
thanks

Hi VinceC,

We're sorry for the inconvenience and we appreciate all your efforts. It looks like a cloud issue since it's isolated on LiFX devices only, please go ahead and send a feedback by following these steps: https://goo.gle/2NvQG6R

HI Juni. Thanks for checking back and apologies for the churn on this 'issue'. Turns out that the undeletable LIFX lightbulb in question had been registered by another family member in LIFX. Something I wasn't aware of until earlier this afternoon. When I asked him to unlink LIFX in the GH app, the problem lightbulb finally disappeared in GH. Net - user error. Apologies again and cheers.
