Unable to change Youtube TV channels with voice command

mwpeters

Hello All ,

Starting Friday 10/27, I am unable to change Youtube TV channels with voice command.  This is including using routines/automation assistant commands configured in my Google Home.

Scope - I have 5 Chromecasts with Google TV, and the change channel voice command no longer works on any.  I have factory reset two of them in an effort to resolve/discover the issue but it remains.  I have a variety of Google home devices including, but not limited to Nest Minis, Nest Hubs (1st and 2nd gen), and Nest Hub Max and the issue is the same on all devices.

I reached out to Youtube TV support, who then sent me to Google Home support for assistants and they also could not determine the issue.  They later responded in email saying "I hope this email finds you well. I just received an update coming from our higher support team and they said there's a new bug regarding this issue, we are working on a fix already. And we will be reaching out to you once  the fix is on."  I asked for a resolution timeline to which they responded they do not have one.

I am reaching out to this community because I want to know if anybody else is experiencing this issue, and if so, did you find a resolution?  There certainly is a chance that this is a bug and they are working on it, but if so, I would have thought there would be much more chatter about this.  At this point, I am taking the "squeaky wheel gets the oil approach", and if you are experiencing this issue, please let me know.  Also, if you are not, please let me know so I can forward it on to the Google Support team.  I do not want this to just become another unresolve thing and/or feature that was removed without warning OR for this to be an issue that is local to just me but I am being told otherwise to keep quiet.

Same here, my assistant will respond "sorry I don't understand " after either a voice command or a automation routine to play a certain station/show.

Nice to know I am not alone I suppose, sorry you are having the same issue.  I would suggest reaching out to Google Home support as well.  I would like to get some movement on a resolution.  I will stay in touch with any updates from my case with them.

I too I'm having the same issue. I've had TV channel commands embedded in Google Home automations for quite some time. They no longer work. I now get the, "I don't understand".

Thank you both, glad to know this is not just me.  Do either of you have any idea on how we can pick up steam to a resolution?  I came to this community to try to be a "squeaky wheel" about this, are there other communities we can do that in also?

Hello, I did and they sent me here. Let me know if you want any more details then what I've already described. I will post in that community if possible

I read on another community chat that someone posted that he resolved this same problem by insuring that all the devices were on the same wifi frequency (2.4 or ,5.0 ghz)

Saw that though not quite the same problem I believe. Firstly I checked that but also it sounded like all commands didn't work for them. In my case, it's only the change channel command. Feel free to confirm.

For me, all others commands are working and other apps on the Chromecast with Google TV

Yes same thing happens to me every couple of months and is currently ongoing for a few weeks. After sometime, I check and get the functions back. This time seems to have been an ongoing issue for an extended period of time.

Having the same problem for a few weeks now like everyone else. Have a bunch of automations set up to play my fav channels and they don't work. Also the base command of "Ok Google, play CNN, on youtube tv, on livingroom tv" no longer works.

I've noticed that the feature started working again yesterday 11/21/23

Agreed, I have noticed the routines and voice commands appear to be working.  Would like to see a consistent couple of weeks before I consider the issue resolved.  No matter how you look at it, this is a positive development.

Thanks for this helpful thread, @mwpeters !

My Mom, who has a disability, likes to watch CNBC, but for some reason that is the only channel she can’t reach via voice command.

If you or anyone else could try that and let me know if it works for them, that would be most appreciated. I’ve had a case open with # for about 3 weeks and sent them videos and photos as requested. They’ve been responsive, but haven’t confirmed yet that it is a bug.

Hi,

Just confirmed, I was able to launch Youtube TV and change the channel to CNBC with voice command.  That all said, I am curious, could you let this chat know if it still does not work for you today?

Thanks!

Thanks, @mwpeters ! That’s good to know.
It still doesn’t work (and I had confirmed that the software was up to date). Tried to share a phot, but not sure if it saved. There is an error message saying: “I looked for CNBC on YouTube TV, but it either isn’t available or can’t be played right now”.
The message doesn’t make sense because it is available and reachable through the Live guide.
