Voice control routine not working

Rutger
Community Member
Hi all,

Hub is on the latest software.

I have a routine that turns on the kettle for 5 minutes ("Turn on the kettle for 5 minutes"). The routine works when I ask google from my phone through voice, but when I do it from my Google Nest Hub it doesn't work.

I get the error "sorry something went wrong trying to schedule this action please try again later".
When I run the routine from the "Home control" on the hub it works.

Other routines like "Turn on the kettle" work, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the "for x minutes" action.

Anyone has an idea why this doesn't work with voice command on the hub?

Try changing your routine phrase to something like "make hot water". If you are using a smart plug there are other workarounds for this as well.

I tried changing the sentence already and it gives the same result.
I also tried on the Google nest audio and it does not work either.

When I say “turn on kettle for 5 minutes” without a routine it works.

When I use the Assistant on my phone the routine works.

The kettle is behind a smart plug indeed.

Google blocks certain functions on "outlets". In the home app, change the device type to "light" and it will do what you want. You should also put your "light" into a new room so that if you say "turn on the kitchen lights" the kettle won't turn on.

The device type was already set to light. I tried settings it into another room but still the same issue.

Whenever I start the routine from Voice, it won’t work. Clicking the play button on the routine works.

So the issue really seems to be that “turn on for x minutes” doesn’t work with routines on the hub and audio. On the phone it works.
