Voice matching inconsistent between phone and mini

I am consistently having problems with assistant on my mini recognising certain phrases whereas saying the same phrase at the same time is recognised perfectly on my pixel phone. This happens even when I'm saying the phrase right next to the device. An example phrase being "start Christmas" being recognised as "stop Christmas" (huh, not even close). I have tried retraining my voice but that didn't seem to help.

 

Are there any particular steps I should be taking to improve this? I thought I might be able to go to the history and "train" the model to be better by correcting specific phrases that were inaccurately identified, but can't see that option in the history.

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with your Google Nest Mini device. Let’s take some troubleshooting steps.

 

  • Open the Google Home app > Devices > Tap your Google Nest Mini > Settings > Remove device > Remove.
  • From the Devices tab, scroll down to Other Cast or Local Devices > Look for your Google Nest Mini device > Tap on it, and add it to a room. Follow the instructions in adding it back to your room.
  • Give it some commands.
  • If the issue persists, do a factory reset.
