Volume on Home/Nest Mini

Does anyone know why, regardless of whether the volume level of a device is set to, say, 5%, the Assistant voice responses will be at a far higher volume? I mean, I set a low volume for a reason — but the Assistant voice booms out at an unwanted high level.

Hi GraduateFlunky,

That sounds interesting and at the same time not quite the experience we want you to have with your Nest Mini ― let's check it out. When did this issue start? Did something happen to your Nest Mini? Could you describe to me your environment if it's noisy or quiet or a little bit of both. It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops. Restarting your phone might also help.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hello and apologies for the delay responding. I thought I could simply reply to the emails I received — no indication/instruction was given that I would need to login to this site again...

To answer questions from Dan:

When did this issue start?

• I cannot accurately say, but it's been something that's been annoying me for quite a while now (i.e. several months).

Did something happen to your Nest Mini?

• No, nothing happened to any of my devices (a mixture of Nest Mini and Google Home Mini + a Google Home Hub — 6 devices in all). They sit on their respective shelves, rarely touched, have never been dropped, water damaged etc.

Could you describe to me your environment if it's noisy or quiet or a little bit of both.

• My home is fairly quiet, which is precisely why I do not want/need a booming loud response voice from devices when I've deliberately set the volume low. For instance, I have a two Nest Minis in my living room, paired, set to 10% volume, per the screenshot from the Home app. I was just listening to a podcast but when I just asked the device to confirm the time, to test the issue, the volume level of both the chime and voice response were noticeably louder (~25%), which is really annoying and completely unnecessary.

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.

• I've tried a hard reset of both the network and the devices — in sequence — but they're has been no change.

What I've just done as a work around is to set the 'night mode' volume to 10% for 23hrs 59mins each day (i.e. from 0900-0859).

This still leaves unaddressed why *all* audio played back from a device is not at the level the user sets. I'm guessing the audio interactions with devices is overriding what I'm setting locally as a user? Hopefully this can be properly diagnosed and fixed.

Best wishes,
GF

Hi there,

I hope you are doing well. We just want to confirm if this issue is happening on all your Nest speakers or just the Nest Mini?

Looking forward to your response.
