What’s the string

Gbneal

Help!!

when I try to broadcast from any of my Google home displays or speakers google asks me “what’s the string”.
my command is “hey google broadcast to Kitchen (name of one of my devices)” and it immediately responds with “what’s the string”

I’ve rebooted everything and no change. It started the day after daylight savings if that matters. I don’t know what a string is or why it’s asking for one.
Any help appreciated

@Gbneal

Is it asking for your message?

This is the format for broadcasts:

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7531913

No. I can say “broadcast” and it will broadcast to all devices but if I say “broadcast to (device name) it asks “what is the string”

previously I would say “broadcast to (device name) and it would say “what is the message”

@Gbneal

There's a post on Reddit about this same thing. In their case, it went away by itself after a few days:

I did see that, thank you!!

Guess I’ll just wait longer.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out — let’s see what’s going on. What Nest speakers and displays do you own? Could you try broadcasting using your phone’s Google assistant to isolate this?

Appreciate the help here, MplsCustomer and JillG.

Regards,

Juni

We are having the same problem. When we try to broadcast from our display to the rest of the speakers in the house it keeps repeating, "what's the string?". Tried to reboot the display multiple times but nothing has worked yet.

We are experiencing the same issue. It started yesterday. It is also happening when I try it on my phone's Google assistant app.  We have 10 Google home devices, a variety of models.

Well, something changed because it’s now working correctly.
I’ve made no changes on my end 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hi folks,

Gbneal, I'm glad that it’s working now. Thanks for the update.

How about the others? Could you try broadcasting and let us know if it's working by updating this thread?

Thanks,

Juni
