Why can't I see my calendar on Nest Hub 2nd gen?

I've just bought a Google Nest Hub 2nd gen. It's going to sit on our kitchen bench with the sole purpose of keeping our household organised. I had expected that I would be able to have our google calendar easily accessible, if not on the main home screen, then at least one swipe away. 

Why can't I make a calendar view? Or get the calendar banners to stay put?

This is sooooo frustrating, especially how un-customisable the views are. I had expected waaaay more

I've checked all the permissions / sharing  etc, and had one calendar banner pop up, then disappear.

Please help or I'm going to return this before the weekend! ARGH

(I can find a calendar notification like 3 swipes down, and I can't get rid of a whole bunch of things I'm never going to use on the "your evening" part. I'd also love to know how to choose which widgets appear here!)

Accessing or managing your calendar events is easy on the Google Nest Hub. You just have to say, "Hey Google, what's on my calendar? or "What are my events"? and it will show the information on your Nest Hub screen. Please visit this link for more information.
