Youtube Music not casting to speaker groups

Youtube Music Premium is not casting on my speaker group (TV & Nest Mini Speaker). This was working previously. Speaker group is working on Spotify though. Its just stuck on YT music logo on TV. Tried all the following troubleshooting but still not working:

- Restarted the network/router

- Rebooted nest speaker and TV

- Deleted and Created new speaker group

- Uninstalled and Installed Youtube Music on TV and Phone.

Hi mfblorilla,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let's check it out. By the way thank you for taking the steps before posting. When did these concerns start happening? Since your devices are on a speaker group and you've done most of the necessary steps, let's delete your speaker group so that we can check if they're able to play YouTube Music individually. Also, it seems like this is isolated only with YouTube Music, I suggest you reach out YouTube Music support and see if there are any updates or changes on their end and tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Yes I can cast Youtube Music independently on the devices, it's not just working as a speaker group. This started happening maybe a year ago. Maybe some updates happened. Also I tried restoring factory settings of nest mini 2nd gen but to no avail. Been doing it on spotify for a while now, but just wanted to have a single subscription on youtube. Will try to reach out for youtube support also

Hi,

I didn't receive any feedback with youtube support. Just an update, tried apple music on my speaker group, it also works. It's completely isolated to Youtube Music.

Hi mfblorilla,

While waiting for YouTube support, could you use a different device like a laptop or another phone with a YouTube Music or YouTube app and see if the cast icon is available or if you're able to have it play on your speaker group?

How about if you remove the TV from the speaker group and make sure the ones remaining  are just the Nest speakers. Even though we both know that this is isolated with YouTube, it's better to isolate further and leave no stones left unturned.

Cheers,

Dan

Hi,

I've already tried using laptop, there's a cast button on it but still the same issue as using a phone. Unfortunately, I can't test removing the TV since I only have 2 devices that can use speaker group. TV and nest speaker.

Hey there,

If you have another Nest speaker that we can add to your speaker group that would be helpful. We need to isolate this since the speaker group is between your Nest speaker and your TV. May I know what TV and Nest speaker you have? Does it have a built-in Chromecast or a dongle to it?

Most Google Nest speaker, display, and Chromecast devices should receive an over-the-air update to allow those devices to continue to function in speaker groups. Refer to the Cast firmware versions below for the minimum versions:

  • Nest Mini, Nest Audio, Nest Wifi Point > 1.56x
  • Chromecast Audio, Chromecast (2018), Chromecast Ultra, Nest Hub (1st gen), Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Home Max > 1.54x
  • Speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if you don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.

Refer to the Find your device's firmware version help center article for how to find a device’s firmware version using the Google Home app.

Kind regards,

Dan
