Hi pippo1tad,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear that your external Bluetooth device that is connected to the Google Nest display 2nd Gen is responding to the "Hey Google" message and not just sending music and audio. But don't worry; help is here. I need to ask you for some information to provide the best solution:

  • What Google Nest display or speaker do you have? You can check the "Google Nest and Home device specifications" to find out.
  • What external Bluetooth device do you have?
  • Does your Bluetooth device use Google Assistant?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Jenny

Hi pippo1tad,

Thanks for your reply. Let me explain that if your Bluetooth device is compatible with Google Assistant, like the Google Home speaker, both will respond to your "Hey Google" commands.
For specific details about your Bluetooth receiver's compatibility with Google Assistant, reaching out to the manufacturer is the best bet.
Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards,
Jenny

hi, thanks….  the bluetooth is a generic item ( no google interface, just audio receiver connection, like a bluetooth headphone).  in the nest hub display audio setting i can choose audio to an extrrnal bluetooth for media player only.  it is set this way: connected to external bluetooth.   whatever audio comes from the nest display ( media, questions to hey google, etc) is never played on it but always from the external bluetooth. if i change audio setting on internal audio everything is played by the nest display and nothing goes to bluetooth.  it is clearly explained in the audio setting that by selecting an external bluetooth only media sound will go to it…..

Hi pippo1tad,

Thanks for the update and the detailed information. In this case, you can try to check the connection of your devices. Could you please confirm if you try to set up your Bluetooth device with the next steps?

  • Turn on the Bluetooth device and make sure it’s in pairing mode. You may need to press the pairing button on the Bluetooth device if the device has a dedicated pairing button.
  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites or Devices.
  • Select the speaker or display.
  • At the top-right, tap Settings > Audio > Default music speaker.
  • Tap Pair Bluetooth speaker. The speaker or display scans for Bluetooth devices.
  • Tap the device once it appears on the screen. The Bluetooth device pairs with the speaker or display.
  • Tap Done.

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,
Jenny
