continuing the disappearing Google Home speaker groups discussion...

All of the tips and tricks to bring back disappearing speaker groups seem to work....but not permanently. All of my groups disappear randomly, 1-2 times per week. It absolutely is not on my end, because it didn't happen much in the past, and I've had these groups for years. Yes I've restarted my modem. Yes I've deleted groups and recreated them. Yes I've restarted my Google Pixel 6 Pro. And whatever else has been suggested, I've done. Is there any update on this irritating issue?

Hey kjlee,

Thanks for stopping by on the Google Nest Community Forum.

I know how challenging it is when your speaker group keeps on disappearing from the Google Home app. We'd love to help.

A few questions:

  • When did the issues start?
  • What are the devices included in your speaker group?
  • Are you still able to play music on your group even though it's missing from the Google Home app?
  • Does the same issue happen when using a different phone/tablet?
  • What is the current firmware version of the Google Home app on your phone?

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Absolutely, at least 1-2 times per week? Any suggestions outside of the ones mentioned over the past couple of years?

Hey kjlee,

Thanks for coming back to me. To confirm, does the same issue happen when using a different phone? How many speakers do you have? How far are the devices from the router? Are you having issues playing music on a group when it's not showing from the Google Home app? Also, please provide the make and model of your router.

I'll wait for your response.

This has happened with a Google Pixel 3XL, Google Pixel 4a5g, and my current Google Pixel 6 Pro. I've lived in 3 different places (including now where I've lived for 9 months), over the past few years. The broadband providers have been different, currently Comcast Xfinity. My router distance ranges from 2 feet to 25 feet downstairs, including going through walls. Of course this happened at my last place of residence, where the speakers were much closer to the router.

  • I have 6 speakers, including a Google Nest Hub Max, Google Nest Hub, 2 Google Nest Minis (2nd gen), and 2 Harman Kardon Onyx 3 speakers  that use the older Google Chromecast to integrate them into my Google Home.

My music streaming provider is Spotify. If the groups don't appear in Spotify, I go to Google Home, and sure enough, the groups AND the speakers are missing. Usually a phone restart fixes it if clearing my Spotify cache fails to work (is usually does fail) although last night, that didn't work either. I went to bed, and this morning, the groups were back. And yes, I've restarted my router, replaced my router, uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify - all to finally realize that the glitch is in Google Home. That's the common denominator here, because it happens despite the broadband service provider, different phones, different locations, and doing everything to Spotify short of erasing all of my saved playlists. I'm definitely not the first to notice this, and I need an engineer to dig into Google Home, and not suggest everything else. I've tried it. Thanks.

This happens to me as well, although not as frequent as described above.

I have four Google speakers, one Max, one gen 2 display, one 1st gen mini and one 2nd gen mini.

For random reasons, the speaker group is just not an option. In the past, I had to go into the Google Home app and then it would appear, and subsequently appear in a streaming app like Spotify or Tidal (Side note, Tidal always has streaming issues with maintaining a stable connection between all, not sure if I need to upgrade my router).

This is so annoying and kinda disappointing from Google, as it seems Google doesn't stride for premium all of the time, just good enough.

Hey tekkflash,

Welcome to the Google Nest Community.

Sorry to hear about your experience when playing music in the speaker group, but thanks for bringing this up. Let's get to the bottom of this. To eliminate network issues, please move your speaker within 5-20 feet away from the router to make sure that they are getting enough signal from your network. Also, you can try creating a new group with 3 devices then see if you will have the same issue.

Let me know how it goes.
