I can get get through mini nest 2.0 setup until I get to connect to Wi-Fi and then it searches for a while and gives up.  This has been going on for several days and many attempts trying all suggestions from google and online.  I'm going to have to return it if I can't resolve this a few days.  Previously, we used the 1st generation nest very satisfactorily.  I'm not a computer wiz, for sure.  Please help.

Hi phw33,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience that you are experiencing with your Nest Mini when connecting to Wi-Fi.

Before we get started with advanced troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

  1. Can your mobile device connect to the Wi-Fi network on your current location?
  2. How far are you from your Wi-Fi router?
  3. Do you have a strong Wi-Fi connection in the location you’re trying to set up your Google Home?
  4. Are you trying to set it up at a business, in a hotel, in a school, or in a dorm room’s Wi-Fi network?
  5. Are you trying to set it up using a mobile hotspot connection?
  6. Are you attempting to set up on a 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection? If it’s a 5 GHz network, does your mobile device support 5 GHz?
  7. Have you configured your Wi-Fi network to be hidden?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to get your Nest device to connect to Wi-Fi in the meantime:

Basic steps:

  1. Wi-Fi Router Reboot: Sometimes a simple reboot of your Wi-Fi router can resolve temporary network issues that might be causing the Nest Mini to disconnect. Unplug your router for about a minute, then plug it back in and wait for it to fully boot up.

Nest Mini and App:

  1. Restart Nest Mini: Locate the reset button on the bottom of the Nest Mini and press it for a few seconds. This will reboot the device and hopefully re-establish a Wi-Fi connection.
  2. Google Home App: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app on your phone or tablet. Updates often contain bug fixes and improvements related to device connectivity.

Network and Placement:

  1. Wi-Fi Signal Strength and Wi-Fi Network Interference: As you have already mentioned, your Nest Mini is within range of your Wi-Fi router and has a strong signal. Keep in mind that electronic devices, and other Wi-Fi networks can sometimes interfere with signal strength.
  2. 2.4 GHz Network: It is generally recommended to connect your Nest devices to a 2.4 GHz network for better stability. Check your router settings and make sure the Nest Mini is connected to the 2.4 GHz band (if available).

Please check the following article to Connect your Google Nest speaker or display to Wi-Fi or if Your speaker or display is not connecting to Wi-Fi

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Mario
