unable to play KCRW (89.9 FM Los Angeles) from Google Home (or Mini)

Just as the subject outlines, my problem is an ongoing inability to get my Google stuff (Home or Mini) to do what it has been doing everyday for several years. I used to say: "OK Google, stream KCRW" and voila, the radio station broadcast would stream. Now that command directs me to KCRW's second stream (Sounds Eclectic) and not to the talk radio/news stream. I've tried many variants, no solution and I have questions:

1) is this a change that originated with the radio station?

2) or something that changed on the Google side?

3) any possible solutions to this?

Thanks!

This is still driving us nuts too. I feel like it all broke when KCRW updated their site with the new streams.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue. The command to stream KCRW appears to be directing you to the station's secondary stream, "Sounds Eclectic," rather than the primary talk radio/news stream. I'm ready to help you get this sorted out.

To troubleshoot the issue further, please try the following steps in order:

  • Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  • Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  • At the top right, tap your account.
  • Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device.
  • Tap Settings .
  • Under "Services," tap Radio.
  • Tap the radio service you want to connect. Tap Unlink to disconnect it.

You can also refer to these helpful articles for more information: Listen to radio on your Google Nest speaker or display.

Feel free to keep posting if you have more questions.

Gabriela

@GabrielaG Thanks but your answer doesn't do anything to address the issue we're having. Linking to a service is not relevant. The issue is that 'Hey Google' is no longer able to do the simple thing of locating a radio station that isn't exactly hiding or locked behind a paywall.

Thank you for looking into it. Linking to the incorrect default stream is the issue.

The solution stated does not help.  Under Radio -Services the only option I have is "SiriusXM" which I do not use. "I Heart Radio" used to be an option but it has disappeared. That could be part of the issue.
