ytm on nest units

Logged in on my google acct with ytm premium member priviledges that I pay for, I ask google to play some spa and wellness music on my speakergrp for bathroom and restroom, so it does that, great.

Then I go to my bar which is situated in my livingroom and wanna listen to some pop hits playlists, so I ask google to play that on the speakergrp in there, then it starts playing and after the first track, it stops and tells me im connected on too many devices  O_O

Seriously? I bought google gear for close to $1000 and im paying a $200/year subscription to them as well for a music streaming service and I cant have my freaking bathroom speakers play one thing and my livingroom speakers something different?  oO

Please someone tell me its just me who cant figure out how to use the system properly, otherwise all their google stuff is a huge joke!

Hi SizZLeR,

YouTube premium will only allow one stream per user at any one time, this is an industry standard with music streaming services.

If you have a family account then you would need to use different family account login information.

Which means I'd have to pay 50% more at over $300/year just to make it so a speaker in my bathroom will be able to play something different than the ones in the rest of the house.....sorry but that won't happen, I'm not gonna be outraged around like that industry standard or not, the standard apparently is wrong.

No there's a whole other way of dealing with greedy providers, we used it before attacking services became available and it was to duplicate the media so we'd but one cassette tape and have dupes for the car, leisure house etc.

It's completely backwards that we have to resort the methods of the eighties in the year 2022 though, but that's where the industry standard push things and then so be it.

Gonna create offline content which I'll run on Plex from my network share instead.....for $100/year i can buy a lot of network storage space once i run out 😉

Sorry this isn't tha answer that you are looking for but it's the record companies/music rights holders that imposes this.

You could use another music service provider such as Spotify free for one room's speakers or use a radio station.

Dont get me wrong, I appreciate you taking time to share this information, regardless that its not what I was hoping to hear, not your fault. 🙂

Im already using TneIn to have music playing in the house so I can have my beloved spa and wellness playlist going in the bathroom and the restroom.....meaning im  currently being drained $200/year to have a certain type of music in my bathroom. /meh

The streaming services is, as the naming heavily implies, a service and that means it should work FOR the user, not against him.

If you google my issue, youll find that im far from the only person who has this predicament, so obviously, the service got it wrong, theyre missing the real need of the customer, just like the missed it back in the eighties with the cassette tapes, ppl made copies as they found it unfair that theyd have to pay twice for the same music.

But they leave me no choice here, im gonna resort to that option, simply storing the bathroom music in a share on my LAN and stream it from there, until the "industri" wakes up, gets a grip on reality and starts to conform to it.

Thx again for all your help, info and effort, its highly appreciated. 🙂

Hi again,

I understand what you are saying and why you would like it to work this way. But people would just abuse this option and share accounts if this was an easy option.

I am just another user on this community forum, I don't work for Google, I only have some forum hygiene privileges and the ability to flag important post's to the team so I can only advise sending feedback ("Hey Google, leave feedback") about this.

Tape's degraded with the amount of copies that are made and the amount of times there played so this could factor in to why the industry have harder sanctions now.

You still could download a copy of whatever you want to play using YouTube premium and use a Bluetooth connection to a different speaker to the one that you use a voice command with.

I'm just trying to help with the options that are currently available but I don't think the industry is going to change anytime soon because of the amount of abuse multiple streams could impact them.

Cathal

I know that ppl do exploit subscriptions, but most of them does that because it pays off, meaning the subscription price is so high, that they rather invest a tad of time in to fiddling their way around it.

Lowering the subscription cost would do the trick and as im writing this, I was looking in to the whole subscription plan more on yt and saw that they did wake up by now, they instated a Premium Lite subscription which is roughly 60% the cost of the regular premium.

So theyve taken a step in the right direction with that and I resubbed to that plan instead as wha I really wanted the most was to have the ads free yt(m) and then ofcourse for my nest speakers, the freedom to tell google to play a specific track, album, playlist or whatever and have it do so, as without the subscription, it wont, itll instead just run some playlist of the same genre as the track u actually requested.

At least it seems that theres some sort of development going on with Google there and I guess we'll just have to wait and see what else they come up with. 🙂
