Can't cast Android phone to Chromecast - Google's instructions are wrong.

No options seem to exist in Android any longer to cast the phone screen to my Chromecast. That stopped me from doing a presentation of a "how to" to friends, when this should have been easy.

Google's instructions are here - https://www.google.com/chromecast/built-in/learn/tv

...and they are totally incorrect as apparently Google Home no longer HAS a "left have navigation" menu... All there is is the "+" icon in Android 12

Wasted a TON of time trying to find where it's been relocated to, in Google Home - with zero luck.

YouTube still casts... All the things about android version and power saving aren't relevant...

Just want to cast my screen!

Totally unacceptable to leave people in the dark, AND misguided... And pretty poor decision to relocate features but not update documentation.

Or have incomplete documentation.

Etc.

a little "too late now" - but need to know how.

That's an odd page.  That's all about Chromecast Built-In.

The actual Help Center for Chromecast is here:

https://support.google.com/chromecast/chromecast

And, here are the instructions on using a cast-enabled app on Android:

https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/3006709

And, here are the instruction on screen mirroring on Android:

https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6059461

Note: Screen Mirroring does not work with EVERY app.  So please test what you want to do in advance.

Yes, using a cast- enabled APP is unfortunately the wrong use case, and not at all what I want to do. I'm familiar with that.

What I want to do is cast my screen - the whole thing - this used to be possible.

I want to be able to throw my screen onto the TV and show a bunch of people "look - THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT", for any reason.

...via Chromecast, or alternatively my TCL TV supports Miracast (or maybe it's actually also Chromecast).

This need is common - for example, at a family gathering, I wanted to show them how I'll get them into my wedding photos.  Trying to show people a demo - go through the "First, this is the notification you'll get from me in your email (or text... Let me show you that).. And watch what happens when I click the link... Now, when that brings you into THIS app, you'll have to click here to log in... Then maybe you'll have to change this setting on your phone, here's how you get there... Ok, since you are all seniors I'm sure you have questions, what else can I show you?"

By VERY sharp contrast, your instructions are more "open a single app - click the "cast" button inside the app".

Totally different use case.

I hope that's clear - please advise.

I know this existed, I'm an IT guy who has been on  Android since before "cast" existed.

We're on Android 12 today. Please advise.

geolemon, could you please tell us the make and model of your Android phone? When did the issue start? What's the version of your Google Home app? Are you getting any messages when casting your Android screen to the TV?

I'll look forward to your response.
