I have setup 4 Chromecast with Google TV 4K independently on our wi-fi but persons with laptops will from time to time inadvertently automatically cast to one of these 4 locations. It is very irritating and a major fail on Chromecast to not only allow anyone to cast to these screens but to do so without user active participation. This is driving our classrooms crazy as they may be casting on thier classroom projector and then get knocked out by someone else in a nearby location.
Why did Google remove the guest mode requiring the pairing code form Chromecast with Google TV.? This is a major setback in connection integrity.
Does anyone know of a workaround, it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

Hey there Marcus168,
When it comes to the Chromecast devices, anyone who is on the same network as the Chromecast will be able to cast to said device. The older Chromecast generations still have access to the Guest Mode functionality. A work-around that may work in this case would be to use a separate router or travel router and whitelist classroom devices, so that way you don't have a rogue laptop user casting.
I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran
The problem is more than just someone deliberately casting to the same device. It seems automaticwithout user intervention. Please see screen shot attached. Ok unable to attach.
Example I have 4 rooms A,B,C and D
Currently showing
A - Screen mirroring
B - Screen mirroring
C - Available
D - Available
And there are times when it will cast and I would discnnect and it would cast again although I don't want it to. Firmwares are up to date

Hey there Marcus168,
That's odd, you should have access to post photos and screenshots. Are you able to do so using this button?
The pictures would come in handy so I could see if the screenshot is showing cast media control notifications or something else.
Thank you,
Jeran

Hey there Marcus168,
It's odd because there isn't a way to connect to a Chromecast without using a third-party application. In this case, I would check to make sure all Chromecast devices are up-to-date on their firmware, then go ahead and restart each Chromecast as well. If the problem persists, see if you can figure out what is being automatically cast, such as a specific website or laptop.
Best regards,
Jeran

Casting via Google Chrome. No other app required.

Hey there Marcus168,
Since you are connected to the school network, that would most likely be a shared connection, is that correct? When you are on a shared network, all devices connected to that network, as well as their movements and interactions, are visible. Are you able to see how many devices are connected to that network? Also, if you would like, you can test one or two of the devices at home and isolate the issue by doing the same thing on a different network.
On the screen shot, it shows someone casting. Is there any video or any weird behaviors that will show up on the TV at all, or no?
Best regards,
Jeran
