Automation "Arriving Home" doesn't work

claramcarvalho
Community Member

I have two personal automations that use my geolocation:

1) Going Away - puts the camera off the privacy mode. It starts when I leave the geofence of 150m from my home.

2) Arriving at Home - puts the camera on privacy mode. It is set to start when I enter the geofence of 150m from my home.

1 is working fine. I get notification, camera goes off privacy mode and starts recording.

2 simply doesn't start. I don't even get a notification (like I get with #1). Therefore, I arrive and camera is still on.

I gave checked the settings. They are correct. Any clues what might be going on?

Perhaps  the GPS is tracking off of Keyes and bounds and you beee the coordinates to complete the resolution

I'm just starting to use this GPS feature myself.

I had always used the manual "I'm leaving" routine.

In 'Activity' is the first routine being shown as triggered?

Maybe disable the 2nd routine and make a new one from scratch.

I have created a whole new routine with another name today to check.

But it is super weird, because both routines are built the same (if I enter/leave location, do a scene). The routine for going out of the location works, the other one doesn't get triggered. I get notifications for leaving, no notification for entering.

Location service is always on, high precision.

There was another setting that I had to enable.

Phone settings > Battery Battery Usage > select Home app > Unrestricted (battery usage in background without restrictions).

I've set this in mine to test. Thank you.

Hi @DeboraJ !

Thank you for trying to help!

I used to have some issues and I couldn't even see the Presence Sensing option in my Google Home App. After some days trying to figure out what was wrong (location always on, battery always on, my house address defined), I woke up one day and I saw another response from a Community Specialist in another thread in my email. I decided to open the app and, without changing any settings, apparently the app reinitialized and it started asking questions about settings, locations and etc.

From this day, the option Presence Sensing started appearing ON MY DEVICE. I was able to configure the Home and Away family routines.

But, now I have the same issue on my family's devices. Presence sensing simply doesn't show on their device, event with all settings exactly like mine! Location always on, battery always "on", Home address defined. Their configuration is EXACTLY like mine, plus, Home and Away routines are already configured in their phone.

When I enter the Presence Sensing in my device, I see that it is on for me, but not for my 2 family members. But the option doesn't even show in their phone! How can we turn that on? How can we make this option in the menu appear??

Hi @claramcarvalho!

Regarding your inquiry about why your family members can't use or check the Home Away option, this happens because only the account owner can modify this information. Therefore, only you can have access to this function.

Also, the devices will follow the information associated with the account they were initially set up with. So, if the first interaction with the app was with your phone, only you can manage this option within the app.

Debora

Hi @DeboraJ , thanks for trying to help! I understand.

But what about their phone not showing the Presence Sensing option and, therefore, not being able to use the geofencing? The whole point of the Home and Away routines for the family is this, but for me.it is useless.

Hi @claramcarvalho!

If your family members don't have this option, they may have a pending software update. You could try checking the software version of their phones (iOS version in the case of an iPhone device). Also, the availability of this feature can depend on your region. Remember that sometimes our team enables new options gradually.

Therefore, I recommend checking the software version and searching for any available updates on their phones. You can also check for any updates on the Google App.

Debora

Hi @DeboraJ !
i have personally gone in their phones and updated the software. There was actually no need, they were already updated. They are in the same region as I am, so it doesn't make sense to me that I have a feature that they don't. We are all three using a device with an updated version of Android. I need more help. Is it possible to do a troubleshooting?

Hi @claramcarvalho

Thanks for clarifying the information! For this process, I can recommend that you remove the family members from your Google Account and remove the app from their phones. Once you do that, they can reinstall the app, and you can send the invitation again to check if that resolves the issue.

You can do this process with just one of the phones and then, if you notice any changes, you can proceed with the rest of the devices.

Let me know if those steps were helpful for you! I will be waiting for your answer.

Best regards,

Debora
