Camera offline since transferred to Google Home

I've searched the posts to see if I can find my problem, but I can't find it anywhere. I have a Google Doorbell and two Google Cams. They're all wired (power connected). The lights on all three devices are green. However, I can't see live video through the Google Home app. This has been happening since I transferred the doorbell from Nest to Home. The devices seem to be working fine, as I receive motion notifications. I can also watch recorded clips. However, none of them show live video anymore. Google Home says the camera is offline and displays a black screen. The devices are listed and connected on my router, so everything seems fine regarding connectivity. Even when someone rings the doorbell, the lights on the doorbell turn on correctly. It just doesn't transmit the signal to my speaker that someone has rung the doorbell. It's been like this for a while now; I just want to be able to see live video again. What can I do? This is very annoying.

I have exactly the same problems. I transfered my wired outdoor cam 1st gen. to the google home app a few days ago. Since  then the camera is unavailable/offline. Only works for a few hours after rebooting. Then same problem again. The camera worked perfectly before, so the problem must be with google. Its unbelievable that despite this problem already is there for at least 3 weeks, the app currently is still recommending to transfer the camera from the google nest app to google home!

I have the same problem.  I have a first generation camera that will stop working after a few hours.  The only thing that changed was the migration to the home app.  I've reset, changed networks between 2.4 and 5 and back and even given the camera a static IP address.  If I reboot the camera it works for a while, then stops.  Sometimes even after the reboot it takes a very long time to show the live feed.  My nest hello doorbell works fine on the same network.

Been dealing with this for awhile. We all need to contact https://www.linkedin.com/in/rishic1 who is the general manager of google nest asking for a resolution.

Tried, they’re blocking me from signing in to Linkedin.

Same issue here. Difference is I’ve used the Google Home app since we moved in (my wife used the Nest app) and everything worked perfectly. The issue only started once I migrated the cameras to the GH app. They showed offline immediately after migrating but I went through and hard reset everything and they worked for a couple days, but now they’re all showing offline again. The newer cameras I bought to supplement (and registered directly within the GH app) are all working fine. This is a Google problem but of course they are going to ask questions to imply it has something to do with setup or WiFi signal.

Still no resolution. I wonder when they are

going to fix this. It has been a month now.

Also no comminucation whatsoever. Does Google read this topics?

There won't be any support. This all part of Googles planned obsolescence program. You will find this on anything Google provides or has their hands in. Why do you think your phone/tablets suddenly stop working.

There are actually people who believe that Google provides secure system equipment. Nothing that phones home and fails if YOUR internet connection is down is secure. Get a clue Google is NOT your friend.

The first step is to find non-google gear that does not require phone home (forces you to use their server)

   Its all about the Money.

Nest.

A new router is not the solution.

I agree with @thomie . I have a Nest Wifi modem, and the 2.4GHz to 5GHz connection is automatically switched by the modem to best suit each device; there's no way to turn one off and replace the other. I've had this same modem for years, and the problem is with the Google Home app. I didn't have this error with the Nest app in 4 years.

Agreed.  I tried connecting to my 2.4 GHz connection and had the same behavior as the 5GHz.  My camera started behaving poorly right after the migration to Google Home.

The latest funny behavior is that I still get notifications for movement but I cannot get a live feed, so I cannot see what is going on!

At least you must be connecting to the Wi-Fi if you are getting notifications from Google Home from them. They told me I could transfer the cameras back to the Nest App, where mine worked, but had to do it in Google Home. Since mine won't connect I can't do that.

same here too. i am very frustrated , any answers

They want me to contact my internet provider to work through the issue. I don't have an internet issue. I have several computers, streaming tv, iPad, Google thermostat, Google doorbell, Google front door lock that all work flawlessly. The two cameras did too until they got me to transfer them to Google Home. I guess no answer to your question just utter frustration with Google for making two good cameras worthless.

Now my Nest cam is working ok for the past 4 days after transferring to Google home. Before it used to crash within few hours and I had to restart.

Congrats, We are all wishing for the same. Is there anything you did to get it to connect to your Wi-Fi?

What did you do to get it to work? Or was an update pushed out?

Now my NestCam has again crashed after 5 days, I had transferred from Nest to Google Home last month.  Google techs does not seem to be interested in fixing the problem nor are they compensating the Nestcam owners.

Same here as everyone. Can’t wait for Apple to put out a doorbell camera and Apple branded cameras. Will be switching day one when that happens. Google hardware has been crap. Nest was good before Google bought them not anymore.

Just to add my experience.  Exactly the same issue.  Worked for years and now two of my cameras don’t work. I have reinstalled them and same issue.  So frustrating and no response from google

Here an update from my side. It looks like (fingers crossed!) that my Cam is working again. At least it has been the past 24 hours or so. I will describe the steps I have taken. You can try to take these steps as well, I suggest you do it in the same order as I did. Because it are several steps I took, I'm not sure which one ultimately did the trick. I therefore suggest you complete all steps in the same order as I did.

1. Open the Google Home app. Open your profile in the top right corner. Select "Public Preview" and activate it. This will enable new features in the app that are still in the trial-fase.

2. Wait 24 hours. It can take up to 24 hours for the new features to take effect.

Is the problem still not solved? Than continue with these next steps:

3. Disconnect your modem from the power and wait 10 minutes before reconnecting/restarting it.

4. Disconnect your router (if you have one) from the power and wait 10 minutes before reconnecting/restarting it.

5. Disconnect your camera from the power and wait 10 minutes before reconnecting/restarting it.

6. Finally, delete the Google Home app from your phone / device and than reinstall it. You will not loose your settings/devices during this process.

I completed all of these stepps and now the camera seems to be working again. So far sometimes I get the message that camera is unavailable, but after retrying it does connect to the camera. The last 12 hours or so I didn't get this error anymore - now it seems to be working correctly without errors. I hope it stays that way and I hope this will help others too!

I’ll try this, hope it helps. Not sure I have the same issue. Mine won’t connect to Wi-Fi, since transfer to,Google home. Thanks for sharing!

I have same issue. I moved 2 nest camera 1st generation from nest app to Google home and now none of them are working. I'm forced now to buy new cameras.

I have exactly the same issue with all 3 of my older Nest Cams (2x outdoor, 1x indoor).  All stopped working around the same time.  Worked fine for years, now will not complete setup due to WiFi issues.  Note I have 5 other gen 2 Nest cam's that are all working just fine.

I have tried:

  • Changing my WiFi network to 2.4Ghz only
  • Changing my WiFi SSID
  • Trying a different WiFi router and SSID entirely
  • Using a mobile hotspot to set them up
  • Setting it up with 2 other devices (My Pixel tablet and an old Amazon Fire tablet)
  • Setting it up with an old version of Google Home app (Google Home 3.37.55.2)
  • Removing them from the Nest app
  • Removing them from the Google Home app
  • Trying all of the above with the Public Preview version of Google Home app

Nothing works, they camera's continuously flash the blue light and the app reports a connection problem during setup.  What's interesting, is that they appear to connect to my WiFi router just fine during setup (as shown in the router in active wifi devices), but the app does not recognise this.

I contacted Google support, they gave me £50 credit for each Outdoor camera and £25 credit for my indoor cam.

Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me.

After 3 hours with Google support, I was finally able to get them to replace 1 of 3 first generation cameras and to provide a $100 store credit to purchase replacements for the other two. Didn't cover the full cost but I caved and figured $100 out of pocket to replace three cameras beats the alternative. They never admitted this was an issue with the GH migration but chalked it up to the device itself (which we know it not the case). They try to grind it out and make you try every diagnostic in the book but at least I left with partial resolution. Hope this helps!

I have the same issues with my doorbell since the Home migration started, and no resolution. They're dropping support for my protect and thermostat devices. The Nest displays / assistant have become so bad they're often unusable. Someone in the US needs to start a class action suit, and I'm considering legal advice in the EU. Don't buy Google products.

It hasn't kicked my doorbell and camera off yet although I do have more "offline" times, but I also have had the issue where updates have kicked off a 1st Gen Google mini, 2 Google nest Wi-Fi points, and 2 1st Gen Chromecasts in the last month that refuse to reconnect after resets, redownloads of the home app, and multiple calls to Google. Google support offered me a pittance of $50 in store credit for the 3+ hours I've spent on the phone with them troubleshooting plus the significant additional time I've spent troubleshooting on my own. They initially told me it was because my modem wasn't in bridge mode (same set up working fine for 2.5 years) so I changed that setting and those still didn't connect. Finally, they deemed my old hardware as malfunctioning and offered the $50 credit... I'm so over it and looking for alternative solutions to replace everything.

Same issue, migrated to home app and it bricked my camera

I have same issue, two Nest cameras have been offline since I transferred them in Google Home app. Making me feel stupid for buying a new Nest thermostat after Google stopped supporting my old Nest thermostat. Just constant headaches for things that used to just work.

Found this thread from some articles. Has there been any solution? Reading through this thread doesn't seem hopeful if they're offering discounts on new cameras. I migrated most of my older cameras over a month ago, everything was fine for a short time. Now:

  • 2 Nest Outdoor went offline November 11th
  • 1 Nest Indoor went offline November 24th
  • 1 Nest Outdoor is online and recording/alerting on events, but the preview won't update and the live feed only loads half the time after a lot of spinning circles. It's probably next to go totally offline.

I've got 3 more migrated Nest Indoor that have been fine so far. And have another Nest Indoor and Nest Outdoor that I haven't migrated that are fine. Also 2 newer gen Nest Outdoor (Battery) that are Home App native are fine.

I spent over an hour chatting with support who had me delete the cameras from Google Home in an attempt to factory reset them. It didn't work, I could see the cameras still on my network even after power cycling them, even though they displayed a breathing blue light. Trying to add them to the Home app gave a connection error. Trying to add them to the Nest app gives me an error that the camera has been migrated to a Google Home and must be managed there. This tells me they're in limbo, basically bricked since there's no way to physically reset them.

I got escalated to level 2 support who had me join the public preview assuring me that once I was in, I could re-add the cameras no problem. I just needed to wait 24 hours and then add the cameras. 24 hours came and went, I joined the preview, and no change, all the same errors and behaviors. Shortly after joining the public preview (and switching my Home/Nest devices to Gemini), the camera that was acting weird in my last post is now the latest victim. I relayed all of this to the senior support specialist who said they'd get back to me in a day or two.

Please update with specialist follow up, that is if the actually get back to you.

On my two cameras, they emailed me a list of 9 or 10 things to do that all involved my router and my internet. They said it is an internet provider problem and I should call them for help. This goes against all common sense, my cameras worked on the same internet and router before they messed with them on transfer to Google app. Everything in my house, including 1 identical camer still on nest app and two newer cameras on Google app, a Google thermostat, 3 computers, 3 tv’s, an iPad, a kindle and 3 phones all work flawlessly on the internet with the router. This is a software problem tied to their transfer of the two cameras. My internet provider cant help me with that!

So far nothing has happened. At first they asked me to do mutliple network connectivity troubleshooting steps for my doorbell. I asked them if they had the right person because I don't have a door bell and we were very well beyond this phase of troubleshooting. The steps aren't even related to my issue. They replied with the same copy/paste changing doorbell with camera, so I asked if they were a bot and they told me to allow them another day or two for investigating.

Since then every couple of days they ask me to send them a feedback report on the cameras from the Home app (the home app where they had me delete the cameras so it's not possible for me to select them to send a report). Doesn't matter they keep asking for it.

At one point I suggested the cameras have been bricked. They told me to leave them unplugged 2 days to fully reset. I did and now they are totally bricked and I can't even attempt to pair them. My phone can't connect to them, the blue light it out, and they no longer connect to my network.

(un)fortunately another camera succumbed to this, so I sent a feedback report 3 days ago. Haven't heard anything yet.

Given my experience so far, these things are dead. I had hope when they were still holding onto my network connection, but now that they're totally offline with no way to reset them, all hope is lost.
