Cannot access "settings" in the Home app

Trying to get into the "settings" of my Home app always returns with a "couldn't connect" message with a "retry" button.  I have cleared the cache and files, deleted and reinstalled Home, and even tried from a different phone to no avail.

Hi there!

I understand how frustrating it can be to have trouble accessing the Google Home app settings. Let's work together to get this sorted out.

To better assist you, could you please tell me a bit more about what's happening?

  1. What's the make and model of your phone?
  2. What's the iOS or Android version of your phone?
  3. Does it happen when you use cellular data or a WiFi network?
  4. What is your service provider?
  5. Do you have any VPN installed on your phone?
  6. What's your email domain?
  7. When did you first encounter the issue? Does this happen often?

This information will help me narrow down the potential causes of the issue.

Regards,

Brandon.

1. Google Pixel 6 Pro (I also tried a different phone with the same results)

2. Android 14

3. Both

4. Jelly Digital (internet) / Google Fi (Cell)

5. No VPN

6. gmail

7. Roughly early this month (August) as I haven't had to touch settings in about 3 years.  I must have been able to get in as I was able to remove a user from the Family.  But now I cannot touch the settings.

I have been able to make a new home and that home works fine, but I cannot even seem to delete the old home (being unable to access settings).  This is 100% every time I attempt to use settings as I would have just given up and deleted the old home and started over if I could but it is always "couldn't connect".

I can 100% use every other part of the Home app even as far as adding devices and using devices.  Oddly when I added one device it sent an email that a member I had previously removed had removed the device (the device added fine) so lots of weirdness going on with my app.

Hi there!

We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to provide such detailed and informative responses to our previous questions. Thank you for your contribution.

We're currently gathering information on our Public Preview program. Are you enrolled in our Public Preview?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Brandon.

I "was" in public preview.  I left wondering to see if that was the cause of the "settings" dilemma, but may rejoin.

I have at this point removed EVERY device from my home to another home.    I still cannot access the original home's settings (I can connect to the new home settings) to remove it or add/remove members.  Which kinda sucks since the original nest aware subscription was tied to the first home.

Any ideas aside from deleting my email account and/or moving to Alexa as even though members were removed from the original home, they can still access the nest camera 😞
