Cannot connect " Ikea Smart " app to google home.

I just bought a Ikea Dirigera Hub and i want to connect it to my Google Home app. But is keeps crashing.

What i do ( step by step ).

*In the google Home app i go to Devices.

* Click on Add and select " Works with Google Home"

* Then i see a list of apps and search for  IKEA Home Smart ( yellow logo , not the white one that is "IKEA Home Smart 1" That one is for the Tradfri Hub. )

* Then you select cancel or continue. To confirm you have the correct app. I select continue.

* The loading circle appears top left for 2 or 3 seconds.

* Then the screen turn black and i cant do anything anymore. If my phone lockscreen pops up after the standard 10 seconds the screen turned from black to white. But still can do anything in the app. And i have to forcfully close it or i cant use any other app on the phone.

The phone im using is a Samsung S23 Ultra 256GB

Same problem here, Pixel 8 with Android 14.
IKEA has replied on a threat here: https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/comments/1894xb0/home_smart_app_does_not_connect_to_google_home

I managed to bypass the problem. After manually downloading the apk of a previous version 1.16.0 from apkmirror i was able to link it!

First delete the current Ikea Smart app Version 1.17.  Then reinstall the 1.16.0 version APK.  And follow the instructions. After that update the Ikea Smart app to current version

I have the same problem on Pixel 7Pro and IKEA Home Smart 1.18.2.

Go to apk mirror website and download version1.16.0 and uninstall version 1.18.2. Then install the downloaded apk.  Then you can connect. after everything has setup update to the latest version via the app.

Jenelyn

Hi Jenelyn,

Has the original issue we all faced been solved? Is there an ETA? Does Google consider the solution above acceptable? If not, what would be an acceptable duration for an outage of this sort of integration? Would you say that being able to find a solution online and sideload an old apk is a prerequisite to using a google home product? Are we here in the forum the main target audience for google home integrated ikea products? Is finding these solutions part of the experience?

Sincerely,

Joachim

I can confirm that installing version 1.16.0 of the Ikea Smart Home app on Android, rather than having the most recent version of the app installed, will allow you to connect your Ikea smart devices with Google Home.

I've recently bought the 2nd generation of the Google Nest Hub and can confirm that, after using version 1.16.0 of the Ikea Smart Home app to connect with Google Home, you can control your devices using the Google Nest Hub.

I'm very happy! 🙂
