Cannot connect to Smart Life

Wobbly22
Community Member
Good afternoon.

I have been using smart life for about five years with no problems.

Yesterday I tried to add a new wifi socket. It showed up in smart life but did not show up in Google home.

I decided to unlink my Smart Life account and relink it to Google Home.

Now my Smart Life will not link to Google home at all and I am unable to use voice control.
I get a message from Google home stating.
Could not reach Smart Life please try again.

I have uninstalled both Smart Like and Google Home but this has not resolved the issue.

Please advise how to proceed?

Daren.

I got the same problem this afternoon. Loaded 2 smart plugs to smart life. Didn't appear in Google home. Unlinked and now can't reconnect. Using pixel 6

Removed Google home

removed smart life

Restarted pixel 6

Deleted Google play services data and cache

Followed the instructions here https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Apps-Account/Google-account-not-linking-with-Smart-Life-accou...

None of the above worked

I was able to reconnect on my wife's iphone, so was able to load everything back to my home would like to be able to link back with my Google account

Same problem here and last night it removed four my devices randomly. I'm afraid to disconnect Smart Life to try to reconnect because I have 35 other devices that are still connected. I'm using the beta version of the app. I know that Google home has glitches but nothing this bad, this is really affecting my daily life now. Who has time to find the TV remote?

Hi all.

I think I found the answer to this. (Someone else posted in a Facebook Group.

Find the stand alone Google app and uninstall it. The app will still stay on your phone.

Try and re link to Smart life.

It worked for me instantly. Everything re connected. I then set up a new smart plug. I was asked to log in again to Smart Life. I hit the sign in button and it instantly connected and the new plug showed up in GH.

I hope this fix works for you guys.

update - It got fixed for me automatically. Seemed like it was an issue on Google Home's end impacting multiple users. So, maybe try again and see if it works?

Hello everyone,

How are you? I was hoping to catch up with you on this concerning your link between Smart Life and Google Home app. Is everything working as it should be? Have you tried the steps provided by our fellow Community members? If so, try those steps and tell us how it goes. Also, May I know what type of Nest speakers you have been using and what are the devices linked to your Smart Life app?

@Wobbly22, @ankit27bawa,  we're glad that you're able to work this out and thank you for posting your resolution in the Community forum.

Best,

Dan

Hey guys, same here!

@Dan_A the problem is not with the Google nest. The problem is that we're unable to link the Smart Life account to the Google assistant.

Hi folks,

@erosgabor92, I hope we get an answer soon from Smart Life.

@brdemonight, have you tried the steps provided by our fellow community members? Also, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers then, your smart devices that are linked to your Smart Life app. Plug them back in after 3 minutes or 5 minutes tops. Restarting your phone might also help. If you can, please go ahead and re-install your Google Home app and your Smart Life app and tell us how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

The problem is deeper than that, @Dan_A

To connect to a SmartLife account you don't need the SmartLife app. When you try to link it, it redirects you to the smartlife site and then you can log into your account there and link it. So, the problem is not with the app.

In addition, you don't need to be connected to the router or to any WiFi to do that. You can do this by your 4g.

I also tried to add my google account into my GF cellphone and tried to add the smartlife account there: No success.

It seems like Google updated some backend stuff that is blocking the smartlife connection. There are hundreds of sites and forums with ppl complaining about this.

Hi brdemonight,

Apologies for the misunderstanding. Google Home requires a stable Wi-Fi connection for devices to work and for 3rd party smart devices to be linked to the Google Home app. Especially if you want to control your smart devices via voice using a Nest speaker. It would help a lot if you can set up your Smart Life and the devices linked to it onto a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure it’s connected to where your Google Home app and phone is. Tell us how it goes.

Kind regards,

Dan

Mate, I tried in my phone, on my GF phone, on WiFi, on 5G, on my work wifi, using VPN, on my tablet... It simply doesn't work. It says "Unable to reach smart life. Try again"

Hi brdemonight,

Apologies for the late reply and thank you for your patience. How are we now? Does it still give you the message "Unable to reach smart life. Try again". Is the Google Assistant on your Google Home app and your Nest speakers working well? Are you able to give command to them? Have you also had the chance to reach out to Smart Life to gain more information about this concern?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Dan

Hey Dan!

It finally worked! Out of nowhere! I just tried again and it worked! Didn't do anything different!

Finally!
