Hi KR11,

Thank you for posting. I understand you want to watch movies from your iPhone's Mediathek or movies bought via iTunes on your TV using a Chromecast. I'll be more than happy to share more information about this.

Currently it's important to know that Apple's ecosystem, including iTunes and the Apple TV app, primarily uses its own casting technology, AirPlay, which is different from Google's Chromecast. This means you generally can't directly cast movies bought or stored in your iPhone's Apple TV/iTunes app to a Chromecast using the built-in functionality.

Here's how you can watch your content:

For movies from a "Mediathek" app:

  • Check the app for a cast button: many official streaming apps have a built-in Chromecast button. If the specific "Mediathek" app you're using has this button, you can play the content in the app and then tap the cast button to send it to your Chromecast.

For Movies Bought via iTunes/Apple TV App

  • Use a Compatible Smart TV or Device: If your TV has the Apple TV app built-in, or if you have an Apple TV streaming box, you can sign in with your Apple ID directly on that device to access your purchased movies.
  • Cast from a Computer: If you have a Mac or PC, you can play your purchased iTunes movies using the Apple TV app. Then, you can use the Google Chrome browser to cast the tab (or your entire desktop) to your Chromecast. This is often the most reliable way to get DRM-protected iTunes content onto a Chromecast.

I hope this helps you watch your movies!
Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Best regards,
Jenny
