Disable Favourites View

Blue_Smarty
Community Member

Good morning,

Can someone explain to me how I can disable the favourites view in Google Home? I would rather see my devices grouped by room instead.

Thanks

Hi there,

It's not currently possible to set what screen is first displayed within the Google Home app. You need to manually switch to the 'Devices' tab.

Please leave feedback for the Google Nest requesting that they add this option in future updates.

This new design is a no no. If there is to be a favourites page, than, the first thing you should make sure is that it functions as good or better than the current version. If not, what is the point?

For example, besides not being grouped by room, which is oddly bizarre, I have some light fixtures with multiple hue bulbs, I can favourite each of the bulbs but cannot favourite the "room's lights'. Why?

I mean, when testing this all, and decide to realise it to the public, how on earth is it possible tha someone didn't notice something that simple, like light or room arrangements?

@Miguel-Almeida

At the top of the favorites screen you should see an option called 'Lighting' and be able to control lights by room from there.

Cathal

I did see it, but, again, it's still one more step to achieve the same goal (prior, one would only need to open the app), besides, albeit not a problem in itself, the layout lost its grouping schematic.

It'd be so simple, and actually a positive addition, if the favourites tab was an exact replica of the "devices" page, with the difference being that ability to actually choose favourites ones, plus the additions of cameras and other stuff that was added.

All in all, the criticism is really the layout design, particularly, the rooms group, and lights (lights without further need to open a sub-tab).

You can create a household automation that turns on a group of lights and then add that to the favorites page.

Please submit feedback for the Google Nest team about your thoughts on the new design as this is the best way of getting your thoughts to the people that can make changes.

Yes, I know, writing actions and routines has been the workaround for a variety of things, but it shouldn't have to.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. Our team is working hard to deliver the best experience for our users — I'd suggest you submit feedback about it, here's how. Keep your eye on the Google Nest Community page for any updates.

Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this in 24 hours if I won't hear back from you again. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Regards,

Juni

It'd be nice if you show us some evidence that those feddbacks are being heard, because I've never had any follow-up of the things I had submited before. So what's the point of continuing if one's never sure he's being heard anyway? Not a single suggestion/complaint I've made has been attended.

This change is also annoying me to no end, why?? Now I have to tap "devices" manually each time... Just let me set that page as default as it's always been

Hello Miguel-Almeida,

May we know which part of the feedback link isn't working? What device are you using to open the link?

Regards,

Dan

I mean, it's useless, there's no feedback to our feedbacks. For months several people have expressed their thoughts and complaints here, Reddit and in other forums and social networks, like the issue of the lack of Portuguese or the "I don't know" answer when asking the weather, etc.

You've always said to give feedback through the assistance, but, no follow-up is officially or unofficially disclaimed. Nothing, absolute silence from Google.

What's the point of giving any further feedbacks if theres no official statement from Google about the actual and concise matters addressed by the users, besides the utterly ambiguous reaponso of "we hear you and google is always looking for improvements" and so on and so forth?

Clearly nothing is being done, or if it is, it's not properly communicated. There's no dates, or estimated dates, or even a "no, we don't think this is possible, feasible, or we don't want to implement it", nothing concise, like "regarding feature X our stance is clearly Z".

Is this the way Google Compliance works?

Feedback is as suggested, a one way of getting your thoughts or feature requests straight to the Google engineers. They are not support and can't respond to users directly.

If you need to communicate with a Google representative then use the Get Help link below.

If you can't officially purchase a device from the online Google store and have it delivered to your home address then Google doesn't officially support devices that have been imported to other countries. You can find further information about supported countries as well from links below.

Good morning, yes the matter persists; there's still no way to disable favourites and group devices by room.

Thanks for sharing this explanation, @Cathal_S.

@Miguel-Almeida, we deeply appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences. We don't have any news to share about this feature, which is why we are unable to provide a timeline on when it will be available.
