Google Home App android unable to invite person

I'm trying to invite someone to my home on the android home app, but after entering their email address tapping next does nothing and I can't proceed - a previous thread said something about G suite but that means nothing to me. Any address I try doesn't work

@samsheldrick

The person you are trying to invite into your Google Nest "household" has to have a Google (gmail) Account.

Yes they do, its a gmail address. I've tried a few, none work

@samsheldrick

As just another Google Nest customer, I don't know why your invite is not working. You could try deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app. I've done that a couple of times on my iPhone over the last couple of years to correct odd issues, so I'm not sure how this works on an android phone.

Yes I've done this, completely removed and reinstalled. I will try installing on a friends phone and see if that works

Hi samsheldrick,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made or is this the first time adding someone as a home member? Have you tried installing it on your friend's phone? How was it?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

You can't invite anyone using a:

  • Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) account
  • Google Account for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country)
  • A maximum of 6 people can share a home.

Here’s how to send invite and  ensure the one you’re sending the invite to has a Gmail domain for the account:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Switch to the correct home.
  3. Tap Settings > Household > Invite person.
  4. Enter the name or email address of the person > tap Next.
  5. You can find the information that's shared when you add someone to your home. Tap Next to continue.
  6. Review the person’s access to the home > tap Send.
  7. If the invitee isn't already in a family group, the customer (current member who invites) gets a prompt if they like to add them. Tap Add to Family to send an invite to the family group or No Thanks to skip this step. Note: You can have a maximum of 6 members in a family group. If you have a full family group, this option doesn't appear.
  8. The invitee receives an email with instructions.

Note: If the invitee already requested to join the home, a member can simply accept the request, and there's no need for an invite.

Thanks for helping, MplsCustomer.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

Thanks for your reply Dan. I use Google home mainly for lights.  I can confirm both gmail accounts are over 18 years old, standard (not workspace) accounts, and currently there is only me in the home. At step 4 above tapping next does nothing, it does not move on to the next screen. Have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, along with restarts

Hey there samsheldrick,

Could you try creating a new Home structure and once there, send an invite again. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Add.
  3. Tap Create new home.
  4. Assign a home nickname, and enter the home address.

If, for some reason the step 4 on my previous thread isn’t working, it might have been because a home member is already added, follow the steps below and remove them from your Google Home:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Switch to the preferred home.
  3. Tap Settings > Household.
  4. Tap the home member to delete.
  5. Tap Remove.

Once done, add them back as a home member.

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan - well progress of sorts, I've tried that, and whether I add to my new home "test" or the old one I now get Invalid Recipient - please enter the email or name of a contact when trying to add one standard gmail account, but now working when I try to add  another one of mine. All very strange! I will ask her later if she has another gmail account I can use
