Google Home Randomly Removes Devices from Rooms in my Home and Labels Them as Local Devices

Hello.  Over the past few months my Google Home ecosystem randomly continues to remove certain devices from my Home setup and labels them as "local devices" which are not assigned to rooms.  When this happens I often have to verify my account by reconnecting with my phone (usually with Nest Hubs) or putting my password back in (on Chromecast with Google TV streaming devices).  Occasionally one of my points will be removed from its room and assigned as a "local device".  This ONLY happens with my Google products.  My third-party devices (lights, smart switches, Alexa hubs, etc) NEVER get removed from a room on its own.  This is frustrating as it happens almost daily!  I have a Google Nest Wifi router with 3 points.  The mesh test always checks in at "good" or "great" connection.

To troubleshoot I have individually factory reset specific devices which doesn't seem to be the answer.  I have restored EVERY devices to factory settings and re-added them to my Home.  I have even deleted my Home and started over with a different name for the "new" Home.  Nothing seems to prevent this issue from occurring.

What am I missing or not doing correctly?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

This issue is still occurring...would appreciate some advice...direction!  Thanks!

Hi @bighurt0220,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are experiencing issues with your Google Home removing certain devices from rooms. This can be frustrating as it disrupts your smart home setup and requires manual intervention. Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:

Basic troubleshooting steps:

1. Restart Devices:

  • Google Home App: Close the Google Home app completely on your phone or tablet and relaunch it. This can sometimes refresh the device list and resolve temporary glitches.
  • Devices that were removed: If applicable, try restarting your smart home devices themselves.

2. Check for App Updates:

  • Google Home App: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements. Update the app through the app store on your smartphone or tablet.

3. Reset Network Connection:

  • Restart Router: Turn off your Wi-Fi router for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on and wait for it to fully boot up. This can sometimes resolve network connectivity issues that might be causing the problem.

Please check the following articles to Set up Google devices in the Google Home or Nest app and to Control smart home devices added to the Google Home app.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Mario
