Google Home... cant accept invite

Sio_____

Hi

I recently set up a Google home account with a Hub and a doorbell / camera.

Works fine for me, but when I send an invite to my wife here's what happens:

She clicks in the link in the email

She downloads Home app

It takes her to the Devices page in the Home app

She has not been added to my Home account, but she can see the kichen display Hub

She can't see the Nest doorbell.

Not sure what we're doing wrong here. Can anyone help?

Hi @Sio_____!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your wife is experiencing issues accepting the Google Home invitation and accessing all devices. I appreciate your efforts in taking those steps before. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • What model of Nest Doorbell do you have?
  • Is your wife using a personal account or Google Workspace?
  • When you say she can't see the Nest Doorbell, do you mean the device isn't showing up or that she can't see the live view?
  • In your Google Home app, can you see both the Kitchen Display Hub and the Nest doorbell listed under the same 'Home'?
  • During the setup process, was your wife prompted with a message asking if she already had a Nest network? If so, do you know if she selected 'yes' or 'no'?
  • When your wife sees the Kitchen Display Hub, is it showing as 'online' and functional?
  • Is your wife's Google Home app fully updated to the latest version?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Hi @GeremiG - thanks for the response.

A few responses here:

  • What model of Nest Doorbell do you have?
Its a Nest Doorbell (Battery), but wired to electrical supply in house.
  • Is your wife using a personal account or Google Workspace?
    Personal account
  • When you say she can't see the Nest Doorbell, do you mean the device isn't showing up or that she can't see the live view?
    Device isn't showing up.
  • In your Google Home app, can you see both the Kitchen Display Hub and the Nest doorbell listed under the same 'Home'?
No, she can only see the Kitchen Display Hub
  • During the setup process, was your wife prompted with a message asking if she already had a Nest network? If so, do you know if she selected 'yes' or 'no'?
She doesn't recall, but she reckons if she had seen that she would have selected No.
  • When your wife sees the Kitchen Display Hub, is it showing as 'online' and functional?
The device is showing up but there is no indication it is online and functioning. But she can connect to it so I guess it is.
  • Is your wife's Google Home app fully updated to the latest version?
    Yes
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
Yes, have uninstalled / reinstalled app on her phone, updated it, etc.

Hope this helps... please let us know any advice.

Thanks.

Hi @Sio_____!

Thank you for your response. Let's work together for a solution.

1. Let's check how many home structures you have:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites and at the top, tap the name of your current home.
  • That's where you'll find your home structures. If you only have one, select it. If you have multiple home structures, you'll see several names, and we need to verify which devices are in each one.

2. Let's verify that both devices (Nest Hub and Nest Doorbell) are within the same home structure:

  • After selecting a home structure, tap devices.
  • There you'll see all your devices. Even if they're not in the same home structure, you can view them under "Local Devices" (if they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network). If your Nest Hub or Nest Doorbell aren't in the same home structure, one of them will be listed under "Local Devices." If they're both in the same home structure, you'll see them listed under the name of one of the rooms you've created.
  • If the devices are in different home structures, let's move your Nest Hub to the same one where your Nest Doorbell is located. Here's an article that may be helpful for managing your devices between home structures: Share a home and devices in the Google Home app.

3. Invite your wife's account to your home structure. Here is an article that will guide you step by step: Invite members to a home.

4. Accept the invitation through your wife's account. You can do this using the link in the email or through the Google Home app by following these steps: Accept a home member invitation.

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Thanks Geremi

So I went through Steps 1 & 2... I only have one home structure, and all devices (doorbell and hub) are within that structure. They are not listed as Local Devices.

Steps 3 & 4 are as we have stepped through before.

Any other suggestions?

Hi @Sio_____!

Thanks for the update. In this case, I would like you to verify that your wife is using the same account you are inviting.

  1. Open the Google Home app on your wife's phone.
  2. At the top right, tap on her account.
  3. Verify that the Google account shown is the one to which you sent the invitation. If not, switch to the account you sent the invitation to.
  • To switch accounts, tap the triangle next to the Google Account, then tap another account or add another account

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi
