Google Home is duplicating PIN entry numbers

My garage door is linked to Google Home such that I can operate it with voice commands. When doing so, it asks for a PIN. A while back, all of my Google devices (several Nest minis and Nest hubs) started responding that my PIN was incorrect. If I look at the display of a Nest Hub, it shows that Google Home is basically adding extra digits to my response; e.g. if I say "9999" it is recording 7 nines (see image). I know this is not a hardware issue because I've tried it on all of my minis and hubs and the result is the same. Plus, I have rebooted them, factory reset them, uninstalled/reinstalled from home. It has to be the back end software that is trying to recognize a spoken PIN. I don't really have any other issues with Google Home voice commands and as I mentioned earlier, the spoken garage PIN used to work fine. I'm reaching out now because I searched and couldn't find a solution and I assume that there must be one.  Thanks!  nest pin1.jpg

Hello craigbillings,

Thanks for posting — let’s see what’s going on.

Please answer the following: when did the issue start? What's the manufacturer of your garage door? What troubleshooting steps have you tried?

Go ahead and try to change the PIN on your garage door. Unlinking and then relinking your garage door from the Google Home app might also help. Here's how: open the app > Tap Settings > Look for Works with Google > Select the garage door manufacturer > Unlink. Please repeat the same steps to relink.

Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Lovely

Hi:

The issue has been going on for a while. I don't remember when it started... at least 6 months ago.

The issue has nothing to do with the garage door; that was just an example I used. The issue has everything to do with how Google is recognizing a voice command for a PIN entry. Specifically, when Google asks for my PIN, if I happen to be near a Nest Hub, I can manually type in the PIN and it works fine. If I try to speak the PIN to any Google device in my house (there are many), it will duplicate digits (as explained in the original post).

Hey there craigbillings,

Thanks for the detailed information. Please share the manufacturer of the garage door so we can check on this further. Let me know as well if you've already tried the steps I suggested.

Thanks,
Lovely

I assume that you mean the remote opener for the garage door. It's Tailwind.
