Google Home no longer connects to Philips Hue lamps

When first purchased a year ago, my Philips Hue lamps connected to my Home Hub with voice control working well. Since updating the Hue App this month the lamps are no longer linking. I have tried uninstalling and re connecting the lamps via the Hue app on Google Home with no success. Philips have suggested purchasing a Hue Bridge to perform the same voice function as before. I do no consider this a satisfactory solution and would like to find a smart lamp that does connect to Google Home without requiring further devices.
